Cool tool! Not dialup friendly by the way.

If you want to see fireworks,, click on Los Angeles County, Calif.

Appears to be mass exodus with the exception of the failed socialist states in the N.E. where people are moving from one failed socialist utopia to another.

I’d say people are leaving OH in droves, and those who come are far poorer than those who leave.

One astounding fact from my county in CT, (Middlesex) 23 people with an average income of $551,000 moved to Cook County, IL. They have to be idiots. Taxes alone will keep me from ever moving back to Chicago/Cook County.

Cryingalmighty, I have never seen so many out of staters flooding into Alaska just in the last month!

They are everywhere, broke, looking for work and in a few cases are becoming downright dangerous.

Case in point, a California immigrant is hired to operate a concrete boom pump, he tries to adhere to the eco-friendly standards he was taught for California, the result was nearly tragic as his ineptness almost caused the death of a friend of mine. Basically he was so fearful of spilling concrete he allowed excess pressure to build up in the concrete hose, when it did go the contractor who was holding it was tossed 20’ like a rag doll.

I do the hiring at my concrete batch plant, sadly I must stand firm on hiring and I must hire local first even if the immigrant has more experience.

My current county is sad. We have a net inbound migration but it is all low GDP. Our outbound population while low has high GDP. We are a majority hispanic county.

I have seen only one Hispanic in the last 5 years, and he is just a fraction of that even.

Here in Wasilla Alaska its 98% white, and the rest is of a mix of native tribes.

It appears to be that we are indeed getting political refugees here, unfortunately we do not have the proper infrastructure for the flood of them, there are next to none in manufacturing jobs, no big warehouse plants for worker drones.

No massive apartment complexes, we have quite a few but the rent is outrageous.

Gas is the most expensive of all states, the food cost more, the overall cost of living is 2 or more times more expensive than the lower 48. And higher wage jobs much coveted and cherished by elitist liberals are only in Anchorage.

So if anyone is planning to flee to Alaska, go to Anchorage.

There is plenty of Alaska for plenty of people.

The problem is that the people believing Alaska is the holy land have to be very self supporting, only the strong survive, weaklings falter and fail.

I see it every year, big city folk come up here and are totally lost, they cannot even survive in big city Anchorage after 6 months of real winter.

Agreed!

When I lived in pre-pipeline Fairbanks, back in the early 70’s, we used to call Anchorage, where you went on vacation, or if we were feeling mean, fake Alaska. Winter, even before cost of living, should be the biggest concern for anyone moving to Alaska. You haven’t lived until you have survived eight months of WINTER. That is one reason Anchorage was called fake Alaska, Winter just wasn’t winter, compared to Fairbanks.

There is practically zero illegal immigration into Alaska.

The only possible small percentage is from Russia, and honestly I welcome them with an open heart, they are loyal workers, can truly understand the winter and they sure aint Muslims!

Yea, and what happens when they break? Pretty costly to get out of there, Air fare, boat trip, or the Alcan. It’s thousands of miles back to the lower 48. Welfare payments, jail, or a ticket out of town, for the broke, depressed, and downtrodden.

These are primary “retreat” areas for those expecting TEOTWAWKI. Major INBOUND migration from all over the country.

Unk, I was in your fair state a few weeks ago. I can see why folks would want to move there. That said, it was summer, before the mosquito/black fly season.

The people in Wasilla were very friendly and nice, and we only saw scary meth heads twice in the whole trip!

Well since its early morning, I have had my coffee and I’m not quite ready to go to work yet I will offer some insight.

Those that come up here and find its not so easy usually wind up leaving with nothing but the clothes on their back, beaten into submission, broke, busted and possibly forever scarred.

I have tried to help many, and I have failed often, I have many items picked up for next to nothing, vehicles LOTS of guns, tools that people have sold to me at a better price than a pawn shop.

The homeless camps are quite small and every winter a few die of exposure, there are only a few small shelters, if anything the survival rate is better if an existing family is already up here. Another way to survive is to have funds to pay for food and lodging for a whole year, that might get you by for 4-6 months up here.

After time its possible to start cutting the expenses down, buy don’t rent, get a cheap new vehicle instead of a high maintenance problem prone clunker that was cheap to begin with, more than likely it was abandoned by another refugee the year before and was too difficult to operate in sub zero weather or icy roads for six months.

It really still requires true pioneers here in Alaska, and yes Anchorage is indeed the fake Alaska, its a liberal town heavily populated by gays. Sort of a Northern Exposure San Fransisco.

Looks like to the cities, mostly.

Mrs. Tick and I see a ruraldly (that’s a word I made up! :-)) change in our lifestyle pretty soon. In other words we’re getting the heck out of Dodge and moving towards the countryside where we can afford more elbow room.

My fear is, the Californicaters will do what they have done so many places: they’ll take over the electorate and bring the hell of California entitlement politics to Texas. They’ll have help from the swelling Hispanic population too.

Oh well.

I can think of no better place to be in these trying times, we are distanced geographically and have a natural barrier called “winter” that weeds out the weak will person.

And we have seen some strong clear minded people develop, people here are judged by their actions, not just the words.

And obviously America needs people with a clear view of the future.
