Is it too late to give Texas back to Mexico?
LIHerald.com ^ | 6/10/10 | Randi Kreiss

It’s not that I have anything against Mexico; love the country; love the people. It’s just that I would like to edge the state of Texas over the border and out of America. My issues with the Lone Star State, aside from the fact that it nurtured and launched the career of George Bush, is that the Texas school board has staged an intellectual coup d’état, voting in changes to the school curricula based on political and religious bias rather than educational criteria.

In this case, the board is pushing an ultra-conservative, Christian agenda. But no religious or political agenda would be acceptable.

This is a cautionary tale because what happens in Texas doesn’t necessarily stay in Texas. Textbook publishers are paying close attention. According to published reports, over the last year, they sent curriculum writers to the contentious Texas school board meetings to see which way the political winds were blowing down there.

Publishers are in the business of selling books; if evolution is a nonstarter and creationism is to be embraced, the publishers will tweak their texts accordingly. Of course, those same books will be purchased by other states, which may not concur with Texans’ religious theory. But Texas has 4.8 million schoolchildren, and business is business — or, as Molly Ivins, the great Texas writer, used to say, “Bidness is bidness.”

In the past, the influence of conservatives on the Texas Board of Education has been balanced by the liberal influence of California, the largest purchaser of textbooks. However, because of the economic collapse, California has put off purchasing any new books until 2014. So, Texas rules.

This writer went from an Erma Bombeck like homemaker commentator, to a crazy, GOP and Christian Hater. Words can't describe how furious this made me when reading this paper that they send free. The only thing good in it is the architect's column.

I often wonder who pays for this free ink and paper and their far left views. Oh, excuse me, they do have Al D'Amato./s

Now if Texans can just get enough Americans to get equally upset, they might be able to secede without having to fight a war or pay any penalties.

“In this case, the board is pushing an ultra-conservative, Christian agenda.”

As opposed to the Godless left agenda?

Mexico is doing a pretty good job of getting Texas (and NM, and AZ, and CA) back on their own, without our giving it to them. This woman only needs a little patience... Our government sure won’t interfere.

...the Texas school board has staged an intellectual coup d’état, voting in changes to the school curricula based on political and religious bias rather than educational criteria.

But teaching kids homosexuality and environmental religion and using the public education system as a social-engineering tool while sabotaging their math and reading skills by teaching to the lowest-common-denominator is not "an intellectual coup d’état."

Fingers crossed. I do not really want to be part of a country that nurtures O-holes like the author.

Wow. Dont mess with Texas, pal. We’re big hearted out here, but we dont take kindly to foulmouthed outsiders.

And Ill tell you what, I may not think a great deal of creationism, but I know that Texas is big enough for me to educate my kids any which way I want, when the time comes.

Last, but not least? You gotta watch how you run your mouth. Much more of this sort of nonsense, and you may get a texas size knuckle sandwich headed your way.

Texas would revert back to its independent republic status and be much more successful than NY. It would instantly become the Switzerland of North America.

This is reactionary tripe from a ultra-lib! The board put education back at the forefront of the goals for text books and removed the anti-American propaganda and PC equivocation that had been creeping in.

California used to dominate textbook selection for the US. Their poor governance and decision making made them too broke to buy new books.

Ah, the myth of ideological/worldview neutrality.

Secular Humanism, to these people, is the “neutral” worldview.

Do like I did.

Lived in Round Rock, Tx and got a similar ‘free’ paper thrown on our porch weekly. Called them and demanded that they cease and desist throwing their garbage on my lawn or on my porch.

The response was “This is a free, community paper, you should be happy to get such a product free”. I told them that I was willing to stock pile my garbage, and drop it off at thieir residence of business, and that I would do so if they continued to throw their garbage on my property.

They got rude, and I kept firm. Told them to keep their unwanted, unsolicited trash off my porch, and I would keep my chicken guts, fish guts, coffee grounds off of theirs.

Yes, it worked .... Your mailbox is YOUR property, your lawn, and porch are YOUR property - they cannot force you to take their product - as much as they may think they can, the fact is that they are banking their entire business model on the fact that you will not call them and tell them to cease and desist.

Call their bluff. Torgue them off. My favorite comment was “That means we have to manually go through our distrubution packages and remove YOUR address” My reply “Sounds like your problem, not mine ... I don’t want your garbage and I know you don’t want mine”.

Yep Hispanics in the Texas K -1 12 school system are just about to be come the majority. They are the majority in something over 300 of the ISDs. As one Hispanic said “we are taking Texas back one baby at a time”.

The ultra conservative and Christian agenda is requiring schools/text books to include such things as how our nation was founded (freedom of religion) and the religious beliefs of the founding fathers. No, she’s not prejudiced in the least /sarc.

Her main complaint is about the content in school textbooks. Doofus does not know that the state of Texas is the largest customer by volume of textbooks, so the publisher sets the standard to the largest buyer.
Oh wait, she is a journalist. Must have been smoking dope during econ 101. And she wants to give away a portion of our country? Hey babe, the valley counties vote democrat overwhelmingly. Take a look at the red/blue county map from the last election.
