Ukiah, Calif. (AP) -- A Northern California man who fatally shot a family friend accused of molesting him for years was sentenced Tuesday to nine years in prison in the vigilante shooting.

Aaron Vargas, 32, was sentenced after pleading no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the death of 63-year-old Darrell McNeill.

Vargas said McNeill began sexually abusing him when he was 11

. . .
several other people ... came forward to say McNeill had molested them.

Hundreds of supporters ... asked authorities for leniency for the shooter.

. . .

Judge Ronald Brown said he imposed the harsher sentence because he believed Vargas had gone to McNeill's house with the intent to kill him, and that the use of violence to solve problems would only encourage more violence.

Yeah? Well maybe if these perverts thought they would get killed by one of their victims in the future, it might prevent them from molesting innocents in the first place. This makes me sick!

Judges like Ronald Brown are the reason people take the law into their own hands. You can bet “Ronald” would have let the abuser off with a slap on the wrist. Since judges were lawyers first, most of them seem to lean towards giving breaks to the thugs and prosecuting victims to the full extent of the law for the mere act of defending themselves.

This sounds like murder one to me, frankly. Either we believe you can kill only in self-defense, or we don’t. The fact that the victim did something wrong to him years ago is irrelevant.

The shooter sounds very troubled (violence and drinking), which of course could be the result of molestation at the hands of the guy he shot.

Or the accusation could have come from the fact that the shooter was disturbed.

It seems likely that the guy abused him, but perhaps a trial and conviction were in order before the death penalty. I just like to know the right guy is dead before I absolve the shooter.

Agree, the judge’s logic is unsupported by facts and experience in the real world.

Violence has cured a lot evil, permanently.

Vigilante justice is a symptom of a failed justice system. A harsher punishment does not address the problem, but exacerbates it.

Several people came forward saying the executed guy molested them as well. Men don’t just say things like that for the heck of it. For every man that admits it happened to them, you can probably count another 100 that will never admit it.

As a Christian man that believes in forgiveness as well as justice, I say that molesting piece of dung had it coming.

By giving this man a heavy sentence, the Judge is sending a message that molesters of boys have little to fear from their victims.

If men knew they’ll be treated with harsh sentences, I suspect most who’ve been molested wouldn’t bother to find the molester and kill them, thus leaving other male chidren vulnerable to the same horrible fate.

Here’s why I say this.

Women who have been abused or raped and later track down her abuser/rapist and kills him, usually get a light sentence or, in some cases I’ve read of, none.

I expect men who’ve done the same to get equally light sentences.

It’s called equality before the law. Men should demand it.

I suspect the molester of boys is a homosexual and courts tend to protect them; the molester of girls is a heterosexual and courts don’t protect them.

Maybe that’s the difference - I’m just quessing.

From the article:

Vargas' fiancee, Selena Barnet, has testified that McNeill constantly called Vargas and insisted on seeing the couple's baby girl.

I'd say he was defending his family from a predator.

if you were 11 years old...buggered for years by the 40 something year old neighbor....then found out as an adult why you were so screwed up in the head......you deserve the right to exact justice because the state was unwilling.

He deserves a medal and a job offing pedophiles.

Being molested as child might make one violent and tend to be an alcholic as purity and innocense are stolen, don’t judge a child who’s been molested by normal standards.

assuming he was diddled as a child by this guy.

none of what you say matters...he did the right thing...

...if not...then I agree with you....

not that it is an excuse but if the shooter was drunk and an alcoholic(and had a history of violence) there is a good chance it was precipitated by the actions of the shootee.

Encouraging molesters is what this Judge has actually achieved.

You think that a molester will actually want to do more, simply and directly because the person who murders him will get a jail sentence?

I realize that we're all trying to keep our sanity despite the moronic deluge that the MSM feeds us daily... but you cannot seriously think that your statement makes any logical sense whatsoever.

Molester threads are always the worst, because reason and logic immediately get tossed by most posters.

Ummm... The Declaration of Independence does not authorize you to attack citizens in the case of governmental failures to punish them to the degree you personally see fit. (It mentions a bit about throwing off governments, however.) It is also not a legally binding document. Your beliefs are not grounded in any historical, legal, religious, or logical basis.

That is true, except, we don’t get justice for child molesters in this country. So we leave people with the choice of pretty much taking it or doing something about it.

If our criminal justice system was just with the child molesters, I’d agree with you completely. Since it isn’t, my sympathy lies with the shooter.
