CHARLOTTE COUNTY - A Port Charlotte woman foiled a home burglary early Sunday when she confronted the would-be burglar with a .22-caliber rifle.
Authorities are now looking for an unidentified black man who tried to break into the LaSalle Avenue home around 6 a.m.
Sheriffs detectives said the woman scared away the man while investigating a suspicious noise outside her house.
The suspect, described as about 6 feet tall, was standing on the lanai when the armed homeowner frightened him.
The man, who was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black shorts, hopped a privacy fence and disappeared.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Charlotte County Sheriffs Office at (941) 639-2101, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-5477.

Was there something wrong with the trigger? Instructions for use: 1) aim gun at the sub-human; 2) squeeze trigger (preferably multiple times). This is a very cost effective way of dealing with the crime problem.
If she didn’t want to shoot the guy, she should have at least put a couple into a tree so the guy would pee his pants.
And what’s with this “lanai” stuff? Someone’s been watching too many home improvement shows on TV. Does using a Hawaiian word make it better than a covered porch?
Using the term “lanai” adds to the value of the home. Porch is so tacky!
Like Cul-de-sac...its a freaking dead-end!!!

My maison is connected to my garaje by a porte-cochere. The appraiser just told me it is now worth $50k more!
