Tension in S.F. over anti-Israel resolution

SAN FRANCISCO -- Tensions soared at City Hall on Tuesday over a nonbinding resolution calling for the condemnation of the Israeli military's deadly raid on a flotilla headed for Gaza.

At least nine people were killed by Israeli naval commandos during the May 31 raid on ships carrying aid for the isolated Gaza region, which is under an Israeli blockade.

The legislation, sponsored by Supervisors John Avalos and Sophie Maxwell, has more than two dozen "whereas" clauses.

It attempts to localize the attack that took place a half a world away by noting San Francisco's "recognition and understanding of our population's unique relationship to international struggles and the overall principle that human life, whether here or abroad, has value and dignity."

Dozens of people waited hours to testify at the Board of Supervisors weekly meeting, where the measure was considered. The testimony went on late into the night.

Although the legislation carries no legal weight, it took on an importance in the world of public relations, providing a forum for the contentious Israeli-Palestinian debate to be heard. Both sides flooded the supervisors with e-mails, phone calls and personal visits.

Most supervisors hoped the issue would just go away. And legislatively, that's just what might happen. The board was expected to send the resolution to committee, where critics hoped it would die.

City Councils are set up to run cities. What in H-E-dbl-hockey-sticks are these idiots doing making resolutions regarding international affairs over which they have zero purview.

The Board of Stupidvisors doesn’t have any issues that need to be addressed within the “Special City”.

Nitwit + Hubris = Liberal

I would add condescension, arrogance, and intolerance to the recipe.

and pertain to a ridiculous small group of people... the palestinians who are in the wrong anyway? The buggers purposefully set up the Israelis and were prepared with weapons. That entrapment is unsupportable and undefendable.

Why don’t the open minded, enlightened , peace loving citizens of the Bay Area satisfy their two favorite guilt trips by invite their Palestinian Pals to ‘illegally’ immigrate into the city of San Fransisco.

The Bay Area residents could offer them a quasi state in Height-Asbury while at them same, provide the poor Palestinians with generous free benefits as a Sanctuary City.

Is there a term for forcing a city/state to secede from the Union?
