This is going too far. I hate to say it, but BP should start playing hardball and hold the government to their liability cap, which they have already exceeded. They were trying to do the right thing and pay claims and cleanup costs and they’re getting nothing but a slap across their face from Obummer.

The fact that BP caved to this extortion so quickly and that they were represented by the notorious Jamie Gorelick tells me that this is another Obama scam that will defraud BP investors and yet bring little help to those in the Gulf. It will be a slush fund for Obama cronies disguised as a relief fund. Just watch.

I was amazed when watching some of yesterdays hearings to see how every one of the CEO did not have so much as a trace of nads. I remember when the oil patch had men at the helm. Now, just a bunch of pussies that cowtow to the sorry, inept, ignorant, crimminal politicians.

Every one of the CEO’s are greenies.

BP needs to clean house and get some management. They have just given away 20 billion stockholder money (with the rest of the company to come)to pacify the guy that literally hates the oil industry and everything is stands for.

Wimpy’s, all of em.

I believe the biggest challenge for an ex-president and maybe many ex-senators is how to launder your money into daylight.

So you set up some kind of foundation receiving money from Saudi donors that, maybe, turn out to be your own Saudi accounts. You give endless 20 minute speeches for supposedly $300k each. You become a $10 million dollar a year partner in a law firm where you have no duties. You write a book no one reads for a multi-million dollar advance. Can anyone prove just how many books were actually run off the printer?

You set up a building fund that accumulates another quarter billion. Some company backdates some shares and like magic you’re a billionaire. Companies pay you multimillion dollar consulting fees for undefined advice.

Some of your money may be in the form of 2% shares of some Saudi hotel complex, or whatever.

Its all your own money, though, being brought above ground.

I suspect there is a whole industry set up to help people do just that.

It always seems this titans of industry don’t show well in any congressional testimony. These people have tremendous wealth and power yet leave it at the door.

Of course, they could just be the children of once mighty and powerful and grew up as spoiled children and cannot handle the pressure.

wonder what he said to BP in today’s SHORT meeting to make them roll over and give up the $$$.

Exactly the same threat that has been offered to the Dung Head Media, Congress, Scotus if they ever try to challenge his NBC status. Everybody clams up like a big oyster!!!

Please, can you issue smelling salts with that link - I’m feeling faint. The view of his face and the sound of his voice make me nauseous. But I may lapse into unconsciousness if I have to listen to what he actually says. (Cyber Smelling Salts...)

You were saying ...

The nice thing about a "text message" -- is you don't have to see him or hear him and that takes a lot of stress off you ... LOL ...

I should know because I have never listened to one speech of Obama's ever ... and I'm quite healthy because of it. :-) ... I only read text portions and only to the extent that I can stand it ...

So, no worries here ... this is text only ...

The case is not "ripe" for court action...

? Huh? BP is not subject to a bevy of lawsuits by states and/or individuals all along the Gulf coast?? Are you series?

We are speaking of the relationship between BP and the federal government.

Regarding suits against BP, they are doing business on a "federal reservation". Most likely they have the operations for that particular well separately incorporated.

At this moment if you are damaged by oil coming from the well just sue the federal government under the "taking" clause of the Fifth Amendment.

Using the federal tort claims act probably won't work well in this case. Waiting on BP to pay claims that they know can also be processed through the courts against the US government as "takings" could conceivably take much longer.

Fur Shur no one is looking out for the folks on shore in any of this.

OK, so reading text potions of Obama's speech may be more like eating gravel...

Maybe there's a benefit somewhere, but to me he's an impostor not a president and I pretty much discount everything he says anyway...

Why is everyone here defending BP? Should Louisiana, Alabama and Florida be the ones to pay for the spill?

It is not about “who pays”

Who are you? Rosie O’Donnell? (Oh, they screwed up so let’s seize them like good communists would do )

Everyone here is defending the US Constitution.
Corporations and individuals who have accidents - even accidents caused by negligence- have Constitutional protection against despots like obama seizing control of their companies

d’oh

There are provisions under US law for the federla govt to pay for damages through the EPA or oil spill disastaer funds created after Exxon Valdez. Somehow folks are relying on pure emotion stirred up by the obamites to ignore law and descend on BP with tar feathers and pitchforks

Because they probably believe that this will end up insulating them from the final cost.
