In a debate held Monday, June 14th, sponsored by the Green Valley-Sahaurita TEA Party, Jesse Kelly won a straw poll with 44% of the vote. Jonathan Paton, garnered 32%, Brian Miller 21% and Andy Goss finished with 2%. In this YouTube clip Jesse takes the McCain-backed establishment candidate, Jonathan Paton, to task on his legislative record highlighting the fact that it takes more than talking like a conservative to be one.

There is an excelent article summarizing the debate that is unfortunately at a site that cannot be posted on FR due to posting guidelines. If you google "Jesse kelly wins straw poll in debate" you will find the article.

Will Kelly win the primary? Is Paton the local career politician in SE AZ?

I loved to see Kelly whipped Giffords’ arse in November. She’s too liberal for that district.

There's no need to vilify Paton. At the very least you should acknowledge and respect his military service.

He had a background in business and political consulting before serving 6 years in the state legislature. He also enlisted in the US Army Reserve in 1999, served a stint on active duty and later deployed to Iraq.

Easy Crichton!

I was responding to Comparative's question.

If you had bothered to search any of my previous posts on the AZ CD-8 race you would have found that I have acknowleged the service of all four candidates and have stated that I would prefer any of the four over Giffords.

And exactly how did I vilify Paton anyway?

In a debate held today at the Green Valley Recreation West Social Center, sponsored by the Green Valley-Sahaurita TEA Party, Jesse Kelly won a straw poll with 44% of the vote. Jonathan Paton, garnered 32%, Brian Miller 21% and Andy Goss, who was absent due to a commitment as an Army Intelligence trainer, finished with 2%.

The debate, moderated by Ray Carroll Pima County Supervisor District 4, and paneled by Jim Parisi of KVOI radio and Stan Riddle, president of the Green Valley

Community Coordinating Council was attended by over 300 people. Gail Bush, Kay Kohler, Sandy and Gene Sjostrand, and Debbie Hayes are the driving force of the Green Valley-Sahaurita TEA Party.  The attendees were an amalgam of Libertarians, Independents and Republicans with a smattering of Democrats. I asked the organizers which came first for them, their frustration and wanting to do something or the TEA Party movement. All of them replied that they had gotten fed up with all the political parties, particularly the establishment GOP, when the TEA Parties started, they saw the movement as their best opportunity to have a real say in the vetting of candidates and the ability to really do something with their voice.
