A federal nutrition panel wants to change the way Americans eat.
The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, composed of 13 nutrition experts, is charged with coming up with recommendations that will figure in the government's planned update of the iconic food pyramid. Its findings: People should consume more vegetables and whole grains, and less fatty meats, salt and sugar. The report aims to tackle what is widely seen as a national epidemic of obesity.

Why don’t we just shoot the people who aren’t eating the way we want them to?
Why didn’t we just elect the real Mary Poppins?
Fatter, slower people will be culled naturally.
Because I'm just a lovable little fuzz ball?
Holy crap, who could have guessed those results.

???
SOYLENT GREEN!
I thought the four major food groups were pizza, pickles, beer and ice cream.
um, no, the four major food groups are butter, cream, bacon, and chocolate.
Well, as long as they remain *guidelines* and not commands, I don’t really mind so much. There’s nothing wrong with suggesting that kids today don’t get enough exercise and maybe some of them should cut down on the sugar (or more likely, the HFCS). There is, however, plenty wrong with any effort to give those suggestions the force of federal law. I’m plenty skinny, but they’ll have to pry my weekly twinkie fix from my cold, dead hands.

“They also determine the nutrition standards for all federal nutrition programs, including the National School Lunch Program, which feeds more than 30 million children a day.”
Heh. From what I’ve seen of most school lunches, the standards must not be very high. I’m convinced many schools buy from the same companies that supply prison kitchens.
Just put “sweets” on the bottom with it’s carboydrate siblings bread/cereal/rice/pasta, and they won’t need a new pyramid — they’ll just need to invert the shape of this one. Eat lots of fat (not transfats), medium-lots of protein (especially calcium-loaded dairy products), plenty of vegetables and fruits (lots in terms of bulk, but it’s hard to rack up a lot of calories in this department), and go *very* light on the carbs. In terms of calories, this should be the priority list. Making high fat intake the first priority will make the carb cravings go away.
Well...since I cut OUT WHOLE GRAINS and started eating more meat (albeit grass fed)....my LDL is down, and HDL up.....I will NOT have ANY GOVERNMENT idiot telling ME how to eat...just like I don't listen to too many doctors about things, either.....unless they are up to date with the FACTS.
EXACTLY...plus protein helps fill you up, also. When I used to eat oatmeal or oat bran, I would be hungry by 10am...now, I'm good to go till noon, with a couple eggs, some cheese, and maybe some avocado and mushrooms on a piece of high fiber toast.
The problem is that even when they're officially just "guidelines", they get followed by the food service programs of schools, colleges, hospitals, prisons, the military, and corporate and government agency office cafeterias. The people whose jobs entail making the food choices for those programs are eager to have something to point to that can show they did it "right", in case anyone criticizes their performance. And the result will be a repeat of what happened with the current idiotic pyramid -- a problem inherent in the "guidelines" getting translated into a national epidemic of diet-induced disease.
The current pyramid instructs people to limit fats, which is a bad idea all by itself, but even worse, it predictably results in perpetual hunger and a craving for carbohydrates . . . which the pyramid is telling people it's great to load up on. So most of the country has been stuffing itself with carbohydrates for the past couple of decades, and this has played a huge part in the emergence of the obesity epidemic, which currently accounts for a full 50% of the nation's health care expenditures.
Zumba!
I love to have a grilled cheese sandwich for breakfast, with LOTS of butter soaked into the skimpy slices of grilled bread. I put a slice of tomato on to make it even more filling.
Interesting points. Hadn’t really considered all of that.
Try cutting out genetically modified food.... if only the Gov’t and Monsanto would tell consumers which foods they are genetically modifying.
Corn, Sugar Beets and Soy would top that list.......Ethanol anyone?
Where are the pics of your female Zumbaites ?
HA....I put a tomato on mine sometimes too....makes me feel good....like I’m getting a vegetable...er...fruit! Tomatoes ARE really good for you. Actually, I should just start adding some tomato paste (my husband eats it like a dip with “chips”)....

Oh, me too. I dream of grilled cheese sandwiches. Good with ham, too.

ENOUGH! leave...my...sugar...alone..and...get..your...peapickin..hands..off...my...chocolate !
Actually at was a class the other night and I was talking to a young lady I somewhat know, then all of a sudden she puts her hand on my leg and starts feeling my ass up.
I really cannot blame her, if I were a woman and I saw a guy with butt like I have, I would want to feel it too.
Did she at least offer to buy you dinner first ?
If I were a woman I'd be a lesbian. (one that liked women not women like looked like men). ;d
