Gov. Bobby Jindal chastised the Coast Guard today for stopping eight barges equipped with vacuums to siphon oil for an unnecessary inspection Wednesday.
"The last 24 hours have been incredibly frustrating," Jindal said at a news conference at Fort Jackson in Buras, following an aerial tour of oil-fighting efforts on the coast.
Calling for "more urgency" in the federal government's response to the growing oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, Jindal described how it took calls to the White House to clear the way for the barges to commence with cleaning up surface oil today.
"Twenty-four hours were lost unnecessarily," he said. "That's thousands of gallons of oil that could have been sucked up if they had been allowed to do their jobs."
Jindal said 16 barges were ready or had been deployed from the Delta Marina. The Coast Guard Wednesday stopped several because they didn't have proof of certified inspections. After a round-robin of phone calls among Jindal's office, the Coast Guard and the White House, the Coast Guard eventually waived the inspection process and allowed the barges to proceed, Jindal said.

A lady called Rush today about this, he said he didn’t have any news on it. Well here it is, another idiot move by Obama and company.
Stock up - Jindal
Stock down - Bamster
It is ALL about obama nad his handlers seizing control of everything.
Hmmm....if I had my tinfoil hat on I might think that they are trying to make things worse.
Gee, you think maybe uninspected barges might spill some oil?
I think the Coast Guard is keeping everyone possible out of the Gulf, on orders from on high. They don’t want witnesses to what is going on.
I wouldn’t be surprised.
Butch Incompetano? good one.
Once again the government should just get the hell out of the way and let citizens take care of the problems. Government is incapable of handling even the most simple of problems due to bureaucracy and red tape. God help us if national health care ever gets up and running.
Jindal’s stock has been going up and I can see a scenario for a ‘12 run, although he said he wouldn’t. But, Jindal could say that next time it could be another state, e.g. the Big One in CA, and the US needs someone who can respond effectivley in a crisis.
There is no problem so great, that government can’t make even worse.
“A lady called Rush today about this, he said he didnt have any news on it. Well here it is, another idiot move by Obama and company.”
This is not an idiotic move by obama and company, this is a strategic move by them...they are acting with intent.
“Gee, you think maybe uninspected barges might spill some oil?”
What we really need here is a panel full of lawyers, a few months and ten million dollars to determine if the barges should even be in operation in the first place during an emergency...
Odd, there was a fire on one of the oil skimming boats a few days ago. Did you think that might be the reason? How about the Coast Guard doesn’t want more deaths?
Thad Allen doing obama’s dirty work?
Big Brother at work. They suspected that there wasn’t enough lifejackets.
Bureaucrats at work. Let them eat oil mentaslity.
The cleanup crews the feds recruited are coming from medium security prisons that include sex offenders. The ones cleaning the pelicans are actually stomping their nesting areas.
Yea... they might leak.... /sarc
You can bet your booties that Obama laughed his a** off with his "beg me" attitude.
The fire was on the ship pumping the oil up from the bottom.
It was hit by lightning.
I know that any vessel is subject to inspection "AT SOME POINT" and Maritime Laws are strict but...inspections I believe are usually before they hit the road....
The more he is involved, the worse it gets.
I used to think he was just an egghead in way over his head.
Now I truly believe he is completely incompetent.
He is making Alvin Greene look good by comparison.
Uh...That boat was hit by lightning.....lurker
I mean they can’t even get their story straight....
I’m beginning to believe that Obama really did want OIL ON THE BEACH. Think of this.. Didn’t he refuse to deploy the containment booms? Didn’t they oppose burning off the oil? Didn’t they object to the use of dispersants? Didn’t they delay or refuse the ok for building of Barrier Islands? Didn’t he refuse Norwegian and other foreign/private cleanup ships help and refuse to waive the Jones Act? Didn’t he refuse to divert unused Stimulus money or waive Working-Wage requirements for cleanup workers?
About the only thing he’s been active about is the Shakedown of BP and getting the circus in DC to tell the BP president to commit Hari Kari! Imagine if someone suggested the President commit seppuku over his inept handling!
An accident spills oil in 5000 feet of water and he wants to push ahead Cap’n’Tax on COAL! November can’t come soon enough!
And Jindal is as good as I've ever seen when it comes to leadership in a crisis. Strong, decisive and resolute. Remember when we elected presidents with those qualities?
My hatred grows every minute, with each new revelation. I know that’s wrong, that I will have to pay for that, but this is so blatant, so in-your-face, it’s incomprehensible.
Jindal should have taken action way back instead of waiting for Bambi & company, but he did not apparently have the stones. Not impressed.
wrong ... the us coast guard should be allowing everyone ... oncluding the peruivan navy ... to clean-up the oil ... PERIOD
Obama is Jealous of Jindal cause Jindal actually has executive experience.
But if workers get killed or injured, then who is responsible? The Coast Guard.
As of June 10, 2010, its good to know that the United States Coast Guard is still more concerned about their Diversity Action Plan than doing all they can to expeditiously clean up the oil spill:
Well, there's your problem!
Since you got President Oblivious involved, you missed the most important entity of his Administration...
...I don't see where Jindal also called Department Chairs at Harvard...
...according to President Oblivious, that's where all the experts are that can make things happen...
What you see is an anti-American administration destroying by piecemeal one of the finest services in America.
Your kind of comments are evocative of when the people have an anti-sovereignty administration following a globalist agenda. The Coast Guard never asked for this diversity program and we cam cleary see the attack on the services with this plan, and gays in the military and women in combat and all the other institution-destroying initiatives that have come out from the last 4 corrupt globalist administrations.
So when you attack the Coast Guard, you’re supporting the evil motive of the Obama administration. The USCG did not develop the program, and by implementing it, it will destroy the cohesion they have as a service.
You do a great disservice to the American people by ignoring the true problem and slamming the men and women of the USCG.
Why don’t you spend your energy doing something useful, like promoting the notion that the corrupt administration officials and their sleazy deals with globalist corporations that got us into this mess, be prosecuted.
And then work to impose civil penalties on the government employees who are violating their oaths to the Constitution. That would be something that would actually help.
Think about what you say.
Do you think anarchy will solve the problem?
No, but every damned resource in the world that can be activated should be. Idling boats to check for life vests and fire extinguishers while following non-emergency protocol is stupid and exacerbating the problem. We need all there is and we need it right now.
Then you might want to ask what our Navy is doing. Especially since there is a very large base in the area.
Indeed. What are the people with the foremost knowledge of deep water undertakings doing? Why aren't they being mobilized to help? My wife is the least conspiratorial person I can think of and even she's starting to wonder.
Do you think the administration of the Coast Guard stops because of the oil spill? No. People have to get paid, go to training, and other admin stuff. You should see the ALCOASTs I end up looking at.
Furthermore, the other missions of the Coast Guard haven’t ended. What, you want all the Seventh District boats skimming oil? So do the Haitians and the drug smugglers. Stop inspecting commercial boats? That’s all well and good until someone gets hurt or killed, and then the cry goes out “Where was the Coast Guard?” Stop maintaining navigation aids? Stop operating Rescue 21? Stop the HARPATs and boardings?
There are only 75,000 Regulars, Reservists, and Auxiliarists. Right now the Coast Guard is making it possible for commercial fishermen in the Gulf to make money skimming oil - but excepting one ALCOAST and pretending it’s the main focus of the USCG is not truthful.
