Gov. Bobby Jindal Chastises the Coast Guard over Oil Spill Barge Stoppage

Gov. Bobby Jindal chastised the Coast Guard today for stopping eight barges equipped with vacuums to siphon oil for an unnecessary inspection Wednesday.

"The last 24 hours have been incredibly frustrating," Jindal said at a news conference at Fort Jackson in Buras, following an aerial tour of oil-fighting efforts on the coast.

Calling for "more urgency" in the federal government's response to the growing oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, Jindal described how it took calls to the White House to clear the way for the barges to commence with cleaning up surface oil today.

"Twenty-four hours were lost unnecessarily," he said. "That's thousands of gallons of oil that could have been sucked up if they had been allowed to do their jobs."

Jindal said 16 barges were ready or had been deployed from the Delta Marina. The Coast Guard Wednesday stopped several because they didn't have proof of certified inspections. After a round-robin of phone calls among Jindal's office, the Coast Guard and the White House, the Coast Guard eventually waived the inspection process and allowed the barges to proceed, Jindal said.

Officials ordered the use of those barges be stopped Wednesday until more tests can be done on the giant vacuums.

Jindal is becoming more Presidential every day.

You can bet your booties that Obama laughed his a** off with his "beg me" attitude.

The fire was on the ship pumping the oil up from the bottom.

It was hit by lightning.

If the inspections could be waived, were they merely "Obama Policy" inspections??

I know that any vessel is subject to inspection "AT SOME POINT" and Maritime Laws are strict but...inspections I believe are usually before they hit the road....

The more he is involved, the worse it gets.

I used to think he was just an egghead in way over his head.

Now I truly believe he is completely incompetent.

He is making Alvin Greene look good by comparison.

I’m beginning to believe that Obama really did want OIL ON THE BEACH. Think of this.. Didn’t he refuse to deploy the containment booms? Didn’t they oppose burning off the oil? Didn’t they object to the use of dispersants? Didn’t they delay or refuse the ok for building of Barrier Islands? Didn’t he refuse Norwegian and other foreign/private cleanup ships help and refuse to waive the Jones Act? Didn’t he refuse to divert unused Stimulus money or waive Working-Wage requirements for cleanup workers?

About the only thing he’s been active about is the Shakedown of BP and getting the circus in DC to tell the BP president to commit Hari Kari! Imagine if someone suggested the President commit seppuku over his inept handling!

An accident spills oil in 5000 feet of water and he wants to push ahead Cap’n’Tax on COAL! November can’t come soon enough!

and the US needs someone who can respond effectivley in a crisis.

And Jindal is as good as I've ever seen when it comes to leadership in a crisis. Strong, decisive and resolute. Remember when we elected presidents with those qualities?

My hatred grows every minute, with each new revelation. I know that’s wrong, that I will have to pay for that, but this is so blatant, so in-your-face, it’s incomprehensible.

Yes, the in-your-face is infuriating. But then I find myself hopscotching around who I'm more angry at. The government? The media who covers for them? Or the general public who doesn't give a rat's arse? “Sigh.”

The Coast Guard was right to inspect the boats; Jindal was right to ask for expedition of the inspection, but not to waive it.

Jindal should have taken action way back instead of waiting for Bambi & company, but he did not apparently have the stones. Not impressed.

But if workers get killed or injured, then who is responsible? The Coast Guard.

As of June 10, 2010, it’s good to know that the United States Coast Guard is still more concerned about their Diversity Action Plan than doing all they can to expeditiously clean up the oil spill:

Well, there's your problem!

Since you got President Oblivious involved, you missed the most important entity of his Administration...

...I don't see where Jindal also called Department Chairs at Harvard...

...according to President Oblivious, that's where all the experts are that can make things happen...

What you see is an anti-American administration destroying by piecemeal one of the finest services in America.

Your kind of comments are evocative of when the people have an anti-sovereignty administration following a globalist agenda. The Coast Guard never asked for this diversity program and we cam cleary see the attack on the services with this plan, and gays in the military and women in combat and all the other institution-destroying initiatives that have come out from the last 4 corrupt globalist administrations.

So when you attack the Coast Guard, you’re supporting the evil motive of the Obama administration. The USCG did not develop the program, and by implementing it, it will destroy the cohesion they have as a service.

You do a great disservice to the American people by ignoring the true problem and slamming the men and women of the USCG.

Why don’t you spend your energy doing something useful, like promoting the notion that the corrupt administration officials and their sleazy deals with globalist corporations that got us into this mess, be prosecuted.

And then work to impose civil penalties on the government employees who are violating their oaths to the Constitution. That would be something that would actually help.

Think about what you say.

Do you think anarchy will solve the problem?

Do you think anarchy will solve the problem?

No, but every damned resource in the world that can be activated should be. Idling boats to check for life vests and fire extinguishers while following non-emergency protocol is stupid and exacerbating the problem. We need all there is and we need it right now.
