BP Oil Spill: Against Gov. Jindal's Wishes, Crude-Sucking Barges Stopped by Coast Guard
ABC ^ | 17 June 2010 | DAVID MUIR and BRADLEY BLACKBURN

Eight days ago, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal ordered barges to begin vacuuming crude oil out of his state's oil-soaked waters. Today, against the governor's wishes, those barges sat idle, even as more oil flowed toward the Louisiana shore.

"It's the most frustrating thing," the Republican governor said today in Buras, La. "Literally, yesterday morning we found out that they were halting all of these barges."

Sixteen barges sat stationary today, although they were sucking up thousands of gallons of BP's oil as recently as Tuesday. Workers in hazmat suits and gas masks pumped the oil out of the Louisiana waters and into steel tanks. It was a homegrown idea that seemed to be effective at collecting the thick gunk.

"These barges work. You've seen them work. You've seen them suck oil out of the water," said Jindal.

So why stop now?

I am not quite sure what constitutes "crude sucking", but with this Administration, anything is possible.

I hope he runs against Obama. We need men of action and I would love to see him face off in a debate with Obama.

Barry must have given the order to make them stop. After all it is working and HE didn’t come up with the idea so he can’t take credit.

Besides, even if they have to check for life jackets and fire extinguishers why not check the boats one at a time and have a supply to give them if they need them. This is suppose to be an emergency.

And the msm focuses on ‘small people’ bullship and then moves on the ‘shakedown’ bullship.

Will we allow them to get away with this?

From the article:

"The Coast Guard needed to confirm that there were fire extinguishers and life vests on board"

Really? They were worried about fire extinguishers and life vests?

Why don't they just keep on "sucking " up the oil? Disobey orders or whatever it is that is stopping them from cleaning up.

This entire situation is SO STUPID and immature. Where are the %^&$%^%$^% grown ups????

So...what if the barges ignored the Coast Guard. Are they going to ‘open fire’ ?? Somebody needs to push this to the breaking point.

The governor said he didn't have the authority to overrule the Coast Guard's decision, though he said he tried to reach the White House to raise his concerns.

TRIED to reach the White House??? Given the gravity of this situation, it shouldn't take the governor of an affected state more than a few minutes to get through to a responsible party at the White House who can see to it that his concern is addressed very promptly.

Absent and immediate and acceptable response from the White House, Jindal should have put out a call to the citizen militia to defend the barges and their continuing activity. The heck with "authority" to overrule the Coast Guard. Lousiana's governor and citizens have every right to defend the state's land from this extremely destructive assault by an offshore pollutant.

I'm beginning to think it may not be incompetence and bureaucratic red tape that's stalling action.

Instead, I'm beginning to think that Obama wants this disaster to become a catastrophe. He wants to destroy the economies and the people of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. They are, after all, the enemy -- red states.

And he wants to destroy the oil industry (but we already knew that).

Incompetence? Or malevolence? Which is it?
