Tense moments outside Staples Center as police try to control fans

The Los Angeles Lakers’ victory against the Boston Celtics in the NBA final brought boisterous celebrations across Los Angeles -- mostly peaceful but with some tense moments.

Crowds smashed windows at Pico Boulevard and Figueroa Street.

At 9th and Flower streets, a crowd bashed in the windows at the condo loft tower and ripped down the barriers that had been set up at the street. Then they swarmed a pickup truck at the intersection. Ten men hopped on top of it.

Police were also responding to a report of shots fired near Staples Center.

A standoff has ensued between Lakers fans and a phalanx of more than two dozen police wearing riot gear and wielding batons. The scene began when fans tore down a traffic sign and then started tearing down two newspaper stands and lighting the papers on fire. When the police marched up Figueroa Street, about two dozen abreast, the crowd slowly receded.

Some people are throwing Monster Energy drinks at the crowd (they were given out after the win). Others are posing for photographs in front of the line of police.

Figueroa, just walk along towards the Subway to be safe even if it’s the longer route, it’s a major street with lots of bars. Pico is only for bums and illegals...

Happens every time (win or lose)on Figueroa and 11th by the Staples Center. The cops just stand there as these brain-dead people jump on people’s cars.

Any victory parade the Lakers were planning should be denied by the city. There must be consequences for these actions.

The Lakers should also be made to pay for all the damage and the cost of the police.

These teams have a responsibility to keep their fans in line.

Nope.

This is get a free XBOX and flatscreen TV night.

Reports Of Hooliganism

Shades of last year.

Some ugliness has broken out after the Lakers win over the Celtics this evening downtown outside the Staples Center.

Aaron Fitzgerald and Justin Jaeger, both reporting overhead in Sky 9, have reportedly seeing rocks and traffic cones being thrown at cars, motorists being harassed, people stopping traffic, a couple of bonfires being started and at least two fights that including several people being dragged from cars.

The windows of one car, believed to be a Honda Accord, could be seen having its windows smashed.

At least one bicyclist was reportedly struck by several fans.

Moments after the game, the LAPD said they had an “unlawful assembly’ situation.

Most of the situations happened in or around the streets of East Los Angeles, near Whittier Boulevard.

Another “big skirmish” could be seen on Flower Street, just north of Olympic Boulevard, where a fan was beaten by several other males. The man could be seen kicked and beaten by at least three others.

Officers on horseback pushed several small groups away from the downtown area.

One car, believed to be a cab, was also lit on fire with a fully engulfed blaze.

These morons are lucky that Sam Yorty (of the 60’s) isn’t still the mayor of that city. The wild dogs of L.A. would be having brains for breakfast in the back alleys around the Staples Center, and there would be hundreds of wounded in the L.A. County Jail hospital wing.

Maybe Obama could arrange that. I actually wish Obama would do something and screw sports teams up big time because than the people will be mad and revolt
