President Obama’s chief of staff opened the door on Friday for a limited Senate climate bill that focuses on capping greenhouse gases from power plants. Rahm Emanuel told the Wall Street Journal that “a whole range of ideas will be discussed” when Obama hosts senators at the White House next Wednesday, including placing a mandatory limit solely on the heat-trapping emissions from electric utilities. “The idea of a ‘utilities only’ [approach] will also be welcomed,” Emanuel told the newspaper in an interview. Obama is expected to discuss the pending Senate energy and climate bill with about a dozen Democrats

Just a minor adjustment to the overton window. It can be readjusted to give them all they want later on.

Any federal version of Cap and Tax is unconstitutional since Article 1 Section 8 does not specifically grant Congress the enumerated power to regulate energy or the environment.

Obviously, utilities have not been “supporting” Democrats to the extend OTHER manufacturing facility owners have. They will simply pass the cost on to the consumer, of course, so your electric bill can double or triple, and the extra “Obama Money” will flow in and flow right back out to his targeted “needy” causes.

New York Magazine’s John Heilemann thinks may be going on:

Lacking the 60 votes necessary for cap-and-trade, the administration plans to get behind a more modest conservation measure in the Senate, then push for a carbon pricing mechanism during the conference committee merger with the House bill — and do so during a lame-duck session after the midterms, when victorious Democrats will find it easier to make a tough vote and losing ones will be freed of political constraints.

The premise is false: There is no global warming. The planet has cooled in the last decade.

Nothing we use, with rare exception, is made without electricity. "Utilities" also include any gas piped in, does it not? And here in the Northern Plains, as in much of red-state America (AKA flyover country) we use gas as a heating fuel. No heat: you die. That simple.

Everything else is relatively minor, but everything that uses energy will be more expensive, everything that consumes electricity when being manufactured will be more expensive, and it will cost more to pump the gas to fill your tank.

Many oil wells on pump in these parts use electricity to run the pump jack that pumps the well.

there will be no escape from these tentacles of taxation, and they are being summoned forth on fraudulent pretenses.

Here in Michigan the legislature has forced production cuts on electric and gas producers. There was some token whining but in the end they come out on top. Lower overhead costs and artificial higher demands translate into higher prices to the consumer. Add in carbon credits that can be sold and its a top notch deal for them.

Rahm wants the camel's nose under the tent. Once the legislation is in place, it will be adjusted by the bureaucrats...not by the legislators. Say hell no to all of it.

The fact that he’s open to a limited climate bill means they are on the defensive. Crush the bastards. No mercy. We don’t want an energy tax from this administration. They’ve done enough damage already.

Oh, the Gov will just treat that argument the same way it has treated that argument against regulating health insurance—it’ll just call the law a tax, and thereby claim Congress has jurisdiction! I’m not kidding -DOJ argued this in the Florida Obamacare case!

Changes in any “limited” bill to be made by the lame duck Congress after the Nov. elections.

“The rain may never fall till after sundown,
By eight the morning fog must disappear,
And there’s a legal limit to the snow here,
In Camelsnot.”

Shut these bastards down.
