Ottawa Bank Firebombing Was Just Beginning, Police Fear
CANADA.com (THE OTTAWA CITIZEN) ^ | June 19, 2010 | by Gary Dimmock, CanWest News Service

Posted on 06/19/2010 2:05:26 AM PDT by Cindy

SNIPPET: "OTTAWA — The May 18 firebombing of an Ottawa bank was feared to be just the start of a "domestic terrorism" campaign launched by three anarchists bent on acts of destruction at the G20 summit in Toronto, with one of the accused firebombers stockpiling boxes of ammunition and gunpowder, the Ottawa Citizen has learned."

SNIPPET: "Ottawa Police Chief Vern White had publicly branded those who attacked the bank branch as terrorists days after the firebombing, which was filmed and posted online in a "catch-me-if-you-can" video by a group called FFFC-Ottawa.

The acronym stands for Fight for Freedom Coalition, according to the country's spy agency. In its online statement, the group threatened to be present at the Toronto summit.

The police arrested Claude Frederic Haridge, 50, Friday. Haridge, an engineer, has been building circuit boards since he was 14, when he used to salvage parts from the garbage and cart them home."

SNIPPET: "Roger Clement, 58, was also arrested in connection with the firebombing and faces arson charges. Clement is a retired public servant, whose last job was at the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)."

SNIPPET: "A third man in his early 30s has also been picked up. His name is Matthew Morgan-Brown, of Ottawa. He is a well known activist. He was arrested before the 2007 Montebello summit and charged with assaulting police. He was also arrested in 2004 for vandalizing downtown buildings during an antiwar protest."

Travel Alert
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
Bureau of Consular Affairs
Print
Canada

June 17, 2010

The Department of State alerts U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Toronto, Canada to the potential for large-scale demonstrations in downtown Toronto before and during the G-20 Summit scheduled for June 26-27, 2010. This Travel Alert expires on June 28, 2010.

The G-20 Summit, which heads of state and government will attend, will take place June 26-27, 2010, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in downtown Toronto. Previous G-20 summits have drawn large numbers of protesters and activists, and a number of groups have announced plans to demonstrate throughout downtown Toronto. Protesters are expected to gather in Toronto in the days leading up to the Summit and access to parts of the downtown area will be restricted due to security requirements. Even demonstrations that are meant to be peaceful can become violent and unpredictable. You should avoid them if at all possible. Be alert and aware of your surroundings and pay attention to what the local news media has to say.

The Canadian government is constructing a temporary fence in the vicinity of the Convention Centre to create a security zone for the G-20 Summit. As a result, significant traffic disruption in the downtown core is anticipated. Public transportation may also be restricted. U.S. citizens should avoid traveling in or through downtown Toronto during the Summit, if possible. The City of Toronto’s website, available at www.toronto.ca, includes updated information on traffic and security for residents and visitors during the Summit.

Prior to the G-20 Summit, the Canadian government will host the G-8 Summit in Huntsville, Ontario, on June 25 and 26. Because of limited hotel space and Huntsville’s location three hours away from Toronto, the Department does not expect significant protest activity in the Huntsville area. However, U.S. citizens should expect increased security in the area before and during the Summit. The Department does not expect disruptions related to the G-8/G-20 Summits in other areas of Canada.

To enhance security measures already in place for the two Summits, the Canadian Government will likely increase passport and security checks at its land borders. All U.S. citizens traveling to Canada at any time must carry valid travel documents. For details, please refer to the country specific information for Canada.

U.S. citizens are encouraged to consult the Department of State’s Consular Information Sheet for Canada and the Worldwide Caution Travel Alert, located at http://travel.state.gov. For further information, U.S. citizens may also contact the Department of State toll-free from within the United States and Canada at 1-888-407-4747.

The U.S. Consulate General in Toronto is located at 360 University Avenue; Tel (416) 495-1700. The public entrance is located at 225 Simcoe Street. For further information, please visit the Consulate’s website at http://toronto.usconsulate.gov

The U.S. Embassy in Ottawa is located at 490 Sussex Drive; Tel (613) 688-5335. For further information, please visit the Embassy’s website at http://canada.usembassy.gov/

The Toronto baseball team moved out to Philadelphia because of the expected problems associated with the summit. Thanks to the idiot anarchists we were able to secure tickets to the changed venue in Philly. A few months ago we saw Canada deny entry to Bill Ayres. They keep terror files up to date. Good for them. Nobody with half a brain wants a bomber of buildings to have access to students

Thanks Cindy. Funny how this article’s writer put “domestic terrorism” in quotes, merely because it’s some leftist terrorists doing this stuff.

The Citizen (like all Canwest papers) is centre-right editorially, so my guess is that they used quote marks because they were quoting a government official.

Canwests flagship paper is the National post (http://nationalpost.com). There is a portal to all Canwest sites at http://www.canada.com

Thanks for the ping Clive, and the post Cindy.

The 58 year old man, Roger Clement, is a retired, (on a tax payer funded pension), former Government of Canada employee, who had most recently worked for CIDA, The Canadian International Development Agency.

You know, the agency that hires Canadian turds, to give Canadian taxpayer money away, to the turds in the third world?

*fuming*

If this guy has a morgage, I paid some of it again this month, with my taxes..............

*smoke from ears*

My dear FRiend Squawk, the Citizen hasn't been right of center in more than 10 years.

James Orban, the publisher, is best friends with Jim Watson, who, for the benefit of American FReepers, was the Mayor of Ottawa, then joined the Liberal Party of Ontario, and has now quit that job to run again, for Mayor of Ottawa.

It is rumored that Jim Orban, (Citizen publisher), will run for the Liberals in the next Provincial election, as his next gig.

But only if he thinks he'll be successful. Jim Orban doesn't like to fail.

America was the only correct idea.

The first People to use the term “Create Wealth”.

No one can have it, if no one creates it.

If only half the people create wealth, they will not, for long, consider giving half of it away to people who create nothing.

Either they stop forcing us to give away the fruits of half our work, or we stop working. Human nature is funny that way.

I was recently watching a show on TV about the Baader Meinhof group. This reminds me of them:
