Video: The lost JD Hayworth infomercial (Aw, crap! Alert - JD on how to get "free" taxpayer money)

Alternate headline: “McCain rival maybe a little too maverick-y.” John McCormack’s touting this as a potential campaign-ender, but is it really? It’s FUBAR, sure, but hasn’t JD already been thoroughly kookified by McCain’s attack ads, including one describing him as among the very dumbest members of Congress? Crankishness was priced into the value of his political stock long ago. Besides, most of the people who are still with him at this point are surely diehard McCain-haters, prone to shiver at the mere mention of the word “Maverick.”

Hayworth could don a Lesko jacket and jaunty Willy Wonka top hat and start spinning like Julie Andrews in “The Sound of Music” shouting “freeee moneeey” and that crowd would still vote for him.

He’ll dip a few points in the polls and almost certainly lose to McCain in August, but reports of his political death are, I suspect, greatly exaggerated. As for the fact that the self-styled tea-party candidate is caught on camera here encouraging federal handouts, I don’t see that as fatal either. Remember, according to that NYT poll of tea partiers back in April, 62 percent think the benefits of social security and Medicare outweigh the costs. They may hate government handouts in the abstract, and they may bristle at the prospect of diverting more taxpayer money to failing corporations in the form of bailouts, but when it comes to the working joe getting a little out of the system he’s been paying into his whole life, they seem reasonably serene. Exit question: On a scale from one to 10, how much damage is done here?

I believe JC Watts also participated in similar kinds of infomercials. I think his were more real estate oriented - ie, how to get cheep government-backed mortgages for investment properties. When I saw Watts in his, I thought it was an idiotic thing for a former politician to do, and JD is no different.

It's tough to campaign as the small government conservative when you're being paid to teach people how to game the system.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with trying to get your money back from the government. If there were anything wrong with applying for grants, then exactly why does our government work so hard to make them available. The only gotcha’ moment here is why McLame and company see this as bad. It looks like the only thing wrong with Hayworth is that he is melanin challenged!

Even worse is JD’s supporters, Simcox, a Storm Fronter type and knee deep in legal trouble and “J.T.” Ready who chums
at neo nazi groups, only he isn’t wearing a uniform like the others in pics.

I dunno. I don’t think it’s that bad. He explains it’s not free money, but money returned from the federal government to taxpayers to create economic growth, etc. Packaged nicely. Hardly the same thing as Lezko running around, “It’s FREE MONEY!”

OMG...you really are a mccain girl!

‘storm front’ type...good grief. I’m not fond of Simcox, but that is just a damn lie. But lies is the only way McCain and his people EVER get elected.

I met J.T. Ready. The shooting incident that was mentioned during his campaign was on my street. To talk with him, he really doesn’t sound a whole lot different from many Freepers, with a slight Libertarian streak.

Hayworth? Stormfront? What sort of crack are you smoking, SoCalPol? And is it the same type you were smoking when you tried to smear DeVore last month (right before you got the zot)?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with trying to get your money back from the government.

There is something very wrong with charging people $1,000 to "learn how to get money back from the government" when the grants you are pushing are really not available.

The first person who was running against McCain early on was a third party person who reg. Republican to run,
Chris Simcox who is now supporting JD Hayworth and who has been advising him.

Who is Simcox.......
A judge in Phoenix granted an order of protection on April 16, ordering Simcox to surrender his firearms and stay at least 200 yards away from his family.

In her petition for an order of protection, Alena Simcox, 30, his third wife, alleges that she came home from shopping Nov. 29 to find her husband intoxicated.

She writes that he threatened her with a gun, “repeatedly pointed it at me, saying he was going to kill me, and my kids, and the police.”

Alena Simcox describes a six-hour ordeal during which she locked herself and her three children in a bedroom until he passed out at 2 a.m. Afraid for her safety, she did not call the police.

“He was waiting by the door for the police to come, with a gun pointed at me,” she wrote.

Alena Simcox also described a separate incident on Aug. 22, 2009: “On our wedding anniversary, he was drinking and angry. Got a revolver gun and loaded with kids present.

Then proceeded to ask me to ‘shoot him.’ I said ‘no,’ so then he said he would shoot the entire family and cops.”
Neither Chris Simcox nor his lawyer responded to requests for comment from The Associated Press.

The alleged threats are the latest episode in a troubled family life for Chris Simcox.

His first wife accused him of trying to molest their teenage daughter, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil-rights group that has warned about extremism in the Minuteman movement.

His second wife filed an emergency motion to obtain full custody of their teenage son because it seemed Chris Simcox was undergoing a mental breakdown and growing dangerous after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the SPLC reported in 2005, based on an examination of court records in Los Angeles.

In April 2004, a federal judge sentenced Chris Simcox to two years of probation for carrying a firearm on national forest property..........
People who keep informed knew what Simcox’s background was to start with and knew McCain was far better than this
fringe lunatic.

JD Hayworth accepted Simcox’s endorsement whith his background being common knowledge.

JD Hayworth was late entering the primary because he had to pay back the money to convicted felon Jack Abramoff.

Rep.J.D. Hayworth the largest single recipient of Abramoff related money and co-chairman of the Congressional Native American Caucus, has received more than $150,000 from Indian tribes once represented by Abramoff.

I would rather that a bucket of rotting crawdads had that senate seat than McCain remain in it. McCain is the biggest obstacle to Republican success in the last 50 years.

A good way to describe him is “constipated, but determined to sit on that toilet, and to hell with everybody else.” He needs to get off the pot.

hayworth is the lesser of 2 evils, mccain being the greater. for that reason alone he’ll get my vote in the primary. mccain needs to retire.
