Does The Gulf Spill Mean The U.S. Is Headed For Gas Lines, Higher Food Prices And A Broken Economy?

As the Gulf of Mexico oil spill crisis enters a third month, the economic impact of this environmental nightmare is starting to become clearer. The truth is that the "oil volcano" spewing massive amounts of oil into the Gulf has absolutely decimated the seafood, tourism and real estate industries along the Gulf coast. Not only that, but energy industry insiders are now warning that the chilling effect that this crisis will have on offshore drilling could precipitate a new 1970s-style energy crisis.

Considering the fact that the U.S. economy was already on incredibly shaky ground even before the oil leak, the last thing we needed was a disaster of this magnitude. But it has happened, and the reality is that the long-term effects of this crisis are potentially going to reverberate for decades.

The American people certainly have a negative view on the impact that this oil spill will have on the economy. According to a new poll, about eight out of every 10 Americans expect the oil spill to damage the U.S. economy and drive up the cost of gas and food.

But is a new 1970s-style energy crisis really a possibility?

Could we actually soon be headed for blackouts and gas lines?

There still is (& always was & will be) a glut of oil.

The 'erf is full of it like a tick about to pop!

Delivery systems are only getting better & better.

The greedy oilers deserve a 'gulf' clap for being able to keep the price as high as is it is right now.

What is happening in the gulf is going to affect everyone in this country. And if those rigs leave, like Beck said last night, they are not coming back.

We didn’t have lines at the pump, back in the 70’s, because of a shortage of oil, we had lines because of government price controls.

Ordinarily, the answer would be a qualified ‘NO’, but since 0bamao intends to exacerbate the problem for his own purposes, anything is possible.

If 0 has his way it will. They’ve now stopped Louisiana from using the sand “bars?” to block they oil. LA was moving the sand and it was working. The goof-offs in the EPA fear that it’s going to harm the environment. Well shut my mouth, I thought that’s what the blasted oil was doing?

I’ve never seen so much stupid in one place...our gov’t, and especially the EPA.

.."back in the 70’s,"

My dad was a pilot then, he spoke of oil tankers full of oil (low in the water) just waiting out there.

Obama is “Carterising” the US again. If it was OK for Carter, 0 seems to want it to. Sounds like another misery index again.

Yes, because 0 is seen as week and overwhelmed, it won’t take much of a effort to start hostilities:
1. North Korea sinks another South Korean vessel?
2. Iran runs the blockade?
3. Argentine invasion of the Falklands?
4. Russian Invasion of ?

Some of the above
All of the above

Others?
