President Obama says Gen. McChrystal's comments "undermines" the mission in Afghanistan.
He said relieving McChrystal of command is the "right thing" to do.
"I will tolerate debate, but not division," Obama said.
"It saddens me to lose the service of a soldier I've come to respect and admire," Obama added.

And now the question is: will McChrystal choose to tell us all what he really thinks? We will know the answer to this by watching to see where he goes and what rank he wears. Three and Four star general officers wear the rank of their appointment. No three or four star appointment, no third or fourth star, they revert to the grade of Major General (two stars). On retirement, they normally retire in the highest grade served, but can be made to retire as a Major General if they have fallen from favor.
If McChrystal gets another three or four star job, or retires as a four star general, you can bet that the price paid was to keep his mouth shut. If he’s out the door as a Major General, he will be spilling the beans very soon.
You’re more likely to get Biden than Petraeus since there has been a big, ongoing battle between McChrystal and Biden about strategy and Bidne’s just won it.
McChrystal serves at the pleasure of the president. I don’t see how The One could have continued to keep him in charge of Afghanistan without appearing to be extremely callow.
Of course, he is extremely callow, but he doesn’t need to add yet another example.

Obama announced a “comprehensive plan in March 2009” when he appointed McChyrstal.
Then, when McChrystal requested more troops, Obama dithered for months, announcing that he was studing various options. In other words, there never was a comprehensive strategy in 3/09. Like everything else with Commander Zero, it was just a speech that he thought would play well, but there was never a plan.
Then he announced again that he had a comprehensive strategy, and gave McChystal only some of the troops requested.
Then the rules of engagement were so strict that our brave soldiers become sitting ducks, almost helpless to return fire. And we announced that we’d leave in 2011.
You don’t need to be a military expert to realize that Zero just makes it up as he goes along. He says anything that he thinks will sound good at the moment.
I hope Zero is impeached after the November elections.

This would have been an opportunity for Oblahblah to demonstrate magnanimity. He could have laughed it off and said that McCrystal deserved to blow off some steam. “You should hear some of the things we say about Joe and Holbrook after a few cocktails.” Instead, he comes off as a petty pol. Of course, that’s what he is.
We have broken hearts for all those serving in a military commanded by such as obama.
