*snip*
This morning the President accepted my resignation as Commander of U.S. and NATO Coalition Forces in Afghanistan.
I strongly support the President's strategy in Afghanistan and am deeply committed to our coalition forces, our partner nations, and the Afghan people. It was out of respect for this commitment and a desire to see the mission succeed that I tendered my resignation.

A missed opportunity to resign and tell the truth.
I hope he becomes a political consultant on Fox and tells the truth.
Although I seriously doubt it (as it appears he is a Dear Leader supporter, and if not a Lib, leans left) I would love to see him write a tell-all book!
Unfortunately, his statement does not leave much room for him to be a whistle-blower on the Obama administration's incompetence.
I still CANNOT believe GENERAL McChrystal actually voted for BHO.
What military officer in his right mind would do such an idiotic thing?
Typically, when someone this senior is relieved they retire almost immediately. That is what Douglas MacArthur did when Truman relieved him of command during the Korean War.
I don’t know what will happen for him.
All I do know is that Michael Yon said he would refuse to re-embed with our troops in Afghanistan if McChrystal were still in command. Yon is closer to the troops than McC could hope to be, and he knows whats going down. The troops had lost confidence in him. Yon seemed to think that things were being mismanaged over there. I tend to believe him. I am glad McC is headed out. Patraeus will be a far better leader.
This may work out. This is another shining example of how insecure and incompetent Zero is. Look for his poll number to go below 40% favorable on this issue alone.
I’d be sorry if you are right, as I am hoping that Gen. McCrysal’s departure from office will liberate him to do just that — tell the truth. Can we not hope that he will? Are you aware of reasons to think he will not?

An Observation on Obamas Decision
It doesnt feel right. I am left with a sense of dread.
But we have to get beyond this.
We cannot continue to risk life and limb if Afghan men arent equipped to grab the baton from us.
Maybe Afghan women should marry American men and produce some Afghans with higher testosterone levels.
Im only half kidding.
Petraeus IS the man for the job. And I hope he can undo the damage Obama has done.
God, I hope he can.
Because the thought of abandoning Afghan women, again, just sickens me.
I’ll buy his book...
That will come soon enough.
He is a patriot, smart, loyal, and loves America.
He would make a great President in 2012. Better than any name previously suggested. He has been tested. I admire him and know he has a place in saving America. MO
You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. Harvey Dent, The Dark Knight
Heroes are rarely given a ticker-tape send-off they deserve. Theyre either killed in service, or run-out on a rail by the less heroic who want to save face. Heroism is often a burden instead of a badge of honor.
Godspeed, General.

Great idea - someone who knows what they're talking about and with the moxie to actually say it...
“I strongly support the President’s strategy in Afghanistan”
Well, good luck to you, sir, but you lost my respect.
Our so-called president acts like a spoiled brat.
Cowardly statement.
Just once I would like to see someone stand up to Obama and speak the truth, not back down, not apologize, not “tender my resignation,” not be a diplomatic asswipe.
Just once.
God bless General Stanley McChrystal.
Hows that hope and change working out for ya General?

Obama is incapable of handling anything other than worship of his being. This is one of the most instructive events to come out of Obama’s regime so far—he has handed out the key to his own destruction: ridicule. Obama cannot handle ridicule. Crises don’t deserve his attention, but ridicule has his instant focus.
Ridicule needs to be heaped on Obama. Withering, constant ridicule targeting all his frailties. He will not handle it, and better, he will be less able to carry on with abuses.

Great post, Nepeta!

Rule 5: Ridicule is mans most potent weapon. Its hard to counterattack ridicule, and it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.

I am glad in his statement he did not say anything about the incident nor did he put forth any accolades for the pResident.
Having listeneed to the pResident give his usual long winded teleprompter speech about this event, I feel good about the General’s terse statement.
>> He would make a great President in 2012.
Oh, really?
For which party?
He voted for Obama. He supports Obama’s leadership. He sucks up to Obama.
He’s another Weasley Clark.
I live close to Ft Hood in Killeen, Tx and surprised how many of the Army enlisted and officers are Obama supporters.
“Maybe Afghan women should marry American men and produce some Afghans with higher testosterone levels.” Oh... somehow I don’t think that’s the problem. I’d be willing to support taking all the children out and giving them a first class education so they can return and teach their parents to read and write. 95% illiteracy rate in Afghanistan — it’s a hopeless situation. Can’t even read instruction manuals, have to be shown and learn by rote. How do you think those poor slobs got where they are? It isn’t because they scored high on their ACTs or SATs.
Senator John Glenn - vile Democrat - was first a US Marine and later a hero astronaut.
Unfortunately the choice of a military vocation does not a statesman make. :(
They have no choice but to retire as there would no commands open to them anywhere or in the Joint Chiefs.
Thank you.
Generally (no pun intended) a resignation would be followed by retirement.
We’ll see...
What military officer in his right mind would do such an idiotic thing?
McChrystal has been known for quite some time in Army circles as a major progressive/leftist. Beleive it or not, there are such things in the military, though they are a minority. He has also had a good reputation as a warfighter, though some of his leadership skills have been called into question.
“I live close to Ft Hood in Killeen, Tx and surprised how many of the Army enlisted and officers are Obama supporters.”

So, I suppose they fully understand that they have sworn to defend and protect a Communist regime.
I would think a military vocation would instill a strong sense of national security and defending this country which generally precludes voting for Democrats least of all a hard core leftist such as BHO.
That’s the ten gazillion dollar question, isn’t it.
I sure couldn’t do it.
Perhaps people in the past could vote for a Carter by accident, but Clinton, and now Obama?
Lest our side rest on it’s laurels either, that goes for McCain too. Voting this guy in to be our nominee was a lifetime act of shame in my book.
Murtha as well
If so, his execution of the plan was flawless.
However, maybe McChrystal wants out before Bammy GAYS up the military!!
Maybe he was trying to ingratiate himself with the Leftists- didn’t do him any more good than it did Bush. Waste of time.
He voted for Obama and was stupid enough to speak freely in front of Rolling Stone reporter. Just on the basis of those 2 things I wouldn’t vote for him for President. In addition, It doesn’t seem like he is doing that great a job in Afghanistan. The troops are unhappy with his rules of engagement and are blaming them for loss of lives. You can keep him for President in 2012. Right now I’m liking Bobby Jindal or Chris Christie.

So now Mac can join in with Lt.Col. Lakin and other lower level officers on the NBC issues!!!
From the AP story: Obama seemed to suggest that McChrystal's military career is over, including in his praise of the general that the nation should be grateful "for his remarkable career in uniform."
Generally, once a four-star general has been relieved of a command (or offers to resign his command position and the resignation is accepted by the president) he retires from the military service. I expect this is what General McChrystal will do. I hope he writes a book that sells well and becomes a consultant on military matters (for big bucks) on Fox News. At 55, the General has a lot of productive years left that I trust he'll use wisely.
“Our so-called president acts like a spoiled brat.”
That’s only because he is one. Throw in thug and bully as well. And don’t forget elitist, arrogant.....
McC voted for Obama so I hear, so I would not hold your breath if I were you....
