RALEIGH, North Carolina, June 23, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A Raleigh abortuary that has seen constant prayer from pro-lifers with the popular 40 Days for Life campaign has ceased performing abortions.
The Raleigh News and Observer reported Wednesday that National Women's Health Organization of Raleigh is, in the words of one local pro-abortion affiliate, "in transition." The affiliate, Ann Rose, said that the last abortions would be conducted on Saturday, but she would not explain what other changes the “transition” would entail.
The paper reports that the abortuary was generally thought to be for sale after its founder, pro-abortion activist Susan Hill, passed away of breast cancer in February. There are two other facilities in Raleigh where abortions are performed.
David Bereit, the national director of 40 Days for Life, praised the end of the destruction of unborn life at a building where prayer witnesses with the nationwide campaign have kept vigil. North Carolina was one of the first states ever to conduct a 40 Days for Life campaign.
"Even as we praise God for this victory, pray that this center, which has done so much harm, completely closes and that the workers experience conversions!" said Bereit.
Bereit also lauded statistics cited by the News and Observer story, which show that abortions have been declining in North Carolina; the abortion rate dropped 4.6% between 2007 and 2008.
"Your prayers and faithful efforts continue to bear great fruit!" Bereit told supporters.

Wrong, God is GOD!
God created man with free will, you were given the will to decide which path you follow. If you run with the devil then all might seem well, but then he has a hold on you already! He does not need to torment you on earth. The bible is full of stories where those that chose the path of the Lord have been persecuted and tormented and continue to be to this day. These are the people the Devil looks for and try’s to lead astray. Once an addict is hooked, a drug pusher does not give up. He looks for fresh prey.
I am a sinner as all men are, but for me to say the Devil is more powerful then GOD, Never! If you have no strife whatsoever in your life you might wish to step back and look at the whole picture.
Since the fall of man, the end has been on its way, there will be a final showdown and I know whose side I will be on sinner and all!
God is just, and all powerful, don’t let the devil plant that seed and lead you to think otherwise or you will loose without so much as a whimper. You don’t have to understand Gods reasons why things are the way they are, only he knows all the answers, but there is a reason why it is called “Faith” and not “Fact” and that reason is free will!
Some people, and one hopes this is true of Susan Hill, suffer intense and unremitting pain from breast cancer.
Prayer most definitely works.
I have prayed the rosary with a group every week in front of two abortion clinics that have both closed their doors.
The devil really attacks when we are there, all kinds of odd things happen and then, of course, there are the people who verbally attack us while we are there.
Unfortunately, I live in Las Vegas, and when one closed another opened. We have our work cut out for us here!
