Kim Jong-il Lights Up Again

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has apparently taken up smoking again after kicking the habit following a massive stroke in August 2008, South Korean government sources say.

An ashtray sits at Kim's right hand in a Korean Central News Agency photograph showing the dictator at a football stadium in North Pyongan Province on Saturday. "If a stroke patient smokes again, the chances of a relapse increase," said one neurologist. And for diabetics like Kim "smoking can cause heart disease by damaging blood vessels," he added. Kim apparently underwent heart surgery around May 2007.

"Kim Jong-il apparently smoked Marlboro cigarettes and drank pink champagne at dinner with Hyundai Group chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun in August last year," said one government official. "It looks like Kim Jong-il started smoking again around the first half of last year."

Two despicable tyrants smoke: The Kenyan and Chia Pet.

Coincidence? I think not.

The fact that the chairwoman of Hyundai fraternized with this mass murderer is reason enough for me to lose interest in owning a Hyundai car.

Smoking will eventually kill you! It just depends upon other things - you will die, somewhere between 65-100... Just wait for it.

He had a stroke. Smoking is known to be a dangerous habit for the stroke victim. It is no longer a latent long-term danger.

Yea..Yea... I know. That is the established factoid... Actually, for smokers, it would most probably reduce blood pressure to have a cigarette and be beneficial.

My emphasis was on the government statistics - everybody who dies between 55-100 and smokes dies from smoking. It’s a fact...just check the statistics...geez.

Just having a bit of fun here...

My father had 3 heart attacks and 2 strokes, the 2nd which left him mostly immobile with about a 100-word vocabluary. After all that my mother found him with a pack of smokes in the pocket of his robe.

Great... and that says what? Maybe you are doing the same extrapolation that the government research does to raise taxes on tobacco.

Just what correlation are you making and where are your facts?

Condolences.

OTH
At age 51 I was up to almost 4 packs of (regular) Camels + a case or so of Budweiser a day when I went ‘cold turkey’ on both at the same time.
Really lucky the ‘shock’ didn’t get me but I survived and am rolling along some 19+ years later.
Not bragging etc, just saying.

After all Kim Jung-il invented smoking as well as an invisible cell phone to advise his soccer coach at the world cup and the very world cup itself.

I quit smoking in March of 1986. I’d just received a new Chevy Caprice company car and didn’t want to stink it up with tobacco. I did it cold turkey and didn’t tell anyone. Five or six months into my program, friends began to notice I wasn’t smoking and they were supportive.

Likewise...just had a new grandkid, new truck etc so ...

I was such a good, well rounded ‘drunk’, it took my wife almost 6 months to realize I wasn’t drinking.
Drink that much and you are loaded virtually 24/7, always with a light buzz and surely over the ‘limit’.
Can probably correctly state that my kids never saw me completely ‘sober’ till oldest was 25....
Not ‘proud’ of it, just saying....

I had tried quitting several times previously and my pals pimped me unmercifully when I “fell off the wagon” and went back to my love affair with Winstons.
I remember a smokers cough awakened me one night and naturally, I got up and went to the kitchen for a smoke. Finding the carton empty, I went out to the car for my backup pack—damn ! No cigs.
I found the shirt I'd worn that day and two smokes were left in the pack.
Right then and there, I made up my mind that I would smoke one that night and one in the morning and that would be it.
I think this bit of self-hypnosis worked because I didn't really feel any withdrawal pangs. I did keep reaching into my shirt pocket for the pack that wasn't there. This lasted for several years.
I avoided places where smoking was linked to more smoking; Bars. I still have a little “ping” whenever I see an old Bogie movie where everyone is firing up.
