Officials say one man was killed and another wounded in a shooting Thursday afternoon at a medical marijuana dispensary in Echo Park. Hours later, another fatal shooting was reported at a clinic in Hollywood.

Police are not saying if the two shootings are related.

The first shooting was reported at 4:13 p.m. at the Higher Patch Holistic Care located in the 1300 block of Sunset Boulevard, near Dodger Stadium, said Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department.

"One male, Hispanic victim was shot in the upper torso," Herrera said.

"Another male victim was also struck."

One of the men died from his injuries, although it was unclear which.

No suspect information was immediately available.

In the second shooting, reported Thursday evening, one person was reportedly killed at a medical marijuana dispensary in Hollywood.

That shooting occurred in the 1600 block of North El Centro, according to LAPD Officer Rosario.

An employee of the Hollywood Holistic store was found dead at the scene following an apparent robbery attempt.

It surprises me this happened at the Medical Marijuana Clinic. Now at the Medical Crack Clinic, it would be understandable, but at the Medical Marijuana clinic?

Sounds like the basic thesis of the MJ brigade is undone ~ to wit, that free dope will eliminate greed and violence.

Oh, yeah!

It’s not free. The legal pot sold at these places is just as expensive as illegal pot.

I think that it is the one who is no longer breathing.

Well, what do you know, Pot kills. But seriously, while Los Angeles boycotts Arizona for it’s laws, LA citizens are gunned down at Pot clinics by Hispanics

People rob places that have cash and valuables on hand — Convenience store, liquor store, bank, gas station, etc.

I suspect they figured that the Pot Store would be a pushover since the mellowheads probably aren’t packing.

Oh, wow, you mean you had to pay for that stuff?

But I was referring to the thesis ~ not the reality. Obviously the reality is still far different from what the MJ movement people claimed.

It looks to be pretty much like what it was before.

A lot of this violence could be avoided by simply legalizing drugs.

Something like that. This, of course, could have been predicted by anyone with the slightest memory of Haight-Ashbury's Summer of Love where 100,000 or more teenagers showed up and turned into drug freaks, pimps, whores, thieves and murderers.

It was ALL FREE STUFF and totally unregulated.

That always makes it good, right?!

In the big picture, it is small potatoes, but it’s still potatoes.

Ken, I know it’s become an emotional argument for some, and there are flaws on each side of the argument, but I will never be persuaded that dope should be legalized for all folks.

LOL... If I weren’t so lazy and if I wasn’t restricted to “one hand” typing (damn stroke), you would be surprised to learn of my professional background on this subject, as well as my detailed evolution of opinion.

How did it become illegal in the first place? If it took a constitutional amendment to outlaw booze...

Well, you get it. Remember the Constitution? It is that ancient anachronism printed on - you guessed it - pot.

Hemp vellum, to be exact. You know, the type Geo. Washington grew.

I swear, social conservatives are hypocritical as all get up & go when it comes to the drug war. Constitution? We don’t need no stinking Constitution - Scalia found a drug exemption!

It disgusts me.

This just happened a month or so ago in my city. Where is the outrage? Then again since we all know that drunks are violent psychopaths, there isn’t much shock.

http://www.aurorasentinel.com/articles/2010/05/09/news/metro_aurora/doc4be6ece0c6725186630904.txt

“A 20-year-old man arrested last month in connection with a fatal shooting at an East Sixth Avenue liquor store was also shot during the robbery, according to court documents.

Elon Robinson, of Aurora, was shot in the hip and the wrist during the April 9 robbery at 6th Avenue Liquors, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by The Aurora Sentinel.

Robinson, who has since turned 21, was arrested at an area hospital after the shooting and is being held in the Arapahoe County Jail on a charge of felony murder and robbery.

The man killed in the shooting, Benigno Morales-Ramirez, 24, appeared to be an innocent bystander who had gone to the store that night to buy beer, the affidavit said.”
