Palin backs Tiahrt
The Wichita Eagle ^ | 25 June 2010 | Rick Plumlee

Posted on 06/25/2010 1:11:43 PM PDT by Kansas58

Former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin has thrown her support behind Todd Tiahrt in the GOP Senate primary in Kansas.

In announcing her endorsement, Palin called the eight-term congressman from Goddard a "protector of our Constitution, a pro-family, pro-Second Amendment commonsense conservative who has never voted for a tax increase."

Tiahrt is battling U.S. Rep Jerry Moran, Hays, in the Aug. 3 primary.

"We can count on Todd to take on the liberal spending agenda of the Obama administration," Palin said.

Todd Tiahrt introduced Sarah Palin at a recent private school fundraiser, here in Wichita.

Moran has been a constant thorn in the side of conservatives, in Kansas. Moran might vote with us, most of the time, but he is a selfish man who never recruits and never raises money for any other conservatives!

In fact, Moran gets in the way of conservative efforts all the time!

Rove outs Moran for the self-serving Washington insider that Moran is!

About five or so weeks to go until the primary. What are the polls showing if there have been any published that you know of?

Moran was ahead substantially, at about 50%.
However, Tiahrt only started advertising a few weeks ago, and Moran has been up for months.

Tiahrt has a real shot, Tiarht has actually run tough races, before.

Moran has never had a tough race, in his life! (Nor has Moran EVER helped anyone else, in a tough race!)

“I’m happy to endorse Todd Tiahrt’s campaign to be the next U.S Senator from Kansas . Todd is a protector of our Constitution, a pro-family, pro-Second Amendment Commonsense Conservative who has never voted for a tax increase and has fought to end the wasteful spending coming out of Washington . He didn’t just stand on the sidelines complacently, but instead actually battled against the bailouts, the debt-ridden stimulus spending, the cap-and-tax energy schemes, and Obamacare. In fact, remember on the day Obamacare was being debated, Todd Tiahrt was on the House floor all day working to defeat it, and he’s helped lead the charge to repeal and replace Obamacare the moment it was signed into law. We can count on Todd to take on the liberal spending agenda of the Obama administration and fight for lower taxes, more individual freedom, and less government intrusion.”

- Sarah Palin

"We can count on Todd to take on the liberal spending agenda of the Obama administration," Palin said.

Moran is currently running ads highlighting Tiahrt's earmarks. Todd's hardly the poster boy for fiscal discipline.

Moran up by about 35 points. But those are about a month old.

“As he’s proven in Congress, Jerry will not buckle to the pressures of Washington, D.C., but instead stand up and fight against wasteful bailouts, reckless spending, and illegal immigration. I fully trust that Jerry will stand with me against the irresponsible policies that endanger our great nation’s freedom.”

I guess we are now going to see just how much Sarah can change an election. If Moran was up by 35 a month ago and loses, Sarah will gain a lot of credibility.

I think it's going to take a lot more than Palin's endorsement for Tiahrt to win. People like DeMint and Coburn and Tancredo have come out for him. It's going to be hard to paint Moran as a RINO, regardless of how hard Tiahrt tries.

I plan to vote for Tiahrt, but it took awhile for me to make a decision. Neither is perfect, but I give Tiahrt a slight edge in issues. (But not much of one.)

Kansas 9.12 Project and Johnson County State Senator Mary Pilcher Cook Endorse Tiahrt

The Kansas 9.12 Project is a grassroots organization whose mission is to hold government accountable to “We the People” under the U.S. Constitution. The Kansas 9.12 group called Tiahrt the “Constitutional Conservative” and the “best candidate capable of standing up and fighting against big government liberals and moderate establishment Republicans.”

Pilcher Cook is a champion in the fight to protect Kansas ‘ state sovereignty and is a tireless advocate for our 10th Amendment Constitutional rights. Pilcher Cook has also sponsored the Health Care Freedom Act in Kansas , which would preserve individual rights in regards to their health care choices.

Sen. Pilcher Cook said, “Todd Tiahrt is the one true conservative in the race for the U.S. Senate. Todd has never voted to raise taxes, and he stands firm against Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi in their attempt to grow government on the backs of small businesses. Kansas conservatives and tea party activists who care about the 10th Amendment have a tremendous ally in Todd Tiahrt.”

That may be true, but where there are two good candidates, interest in voting in the primary may be low. If that is the case the candidate with the most enthusiastic base will come out in much larger numbers, and that candidate may be Tiahrt since the Tea Party crowd is much more likely to vote and vote for a candidate endorsed by Palin.

Not suggesting that Tiahrt is going to win, byt won’t be totally surprised if it is much closer than polles have indicated.

The few times I have written Tiahrt on issues I disagree with him, he has always responded. I still disagreed with him after reading those letters, but they weren't form letters.
Moran has never responded.
I will vote for Tiahrt simply for the reason he remembers he works for Kansans, not the other way around. (He was still wrong though:-) )

Thanks as I’m not familair with Kansas politics. It may come down to who’s got the cash for the final advertising blitz.

As I recall Tiahrt’s grandparents were from my home town in South Dakota. He, like John Thune, has good roots.
