Even if the GOP wins both the House and the Senate in 2010 (a huge if, I don't believe the GOP will win either body) impeachment will still mean nothing. The only thing that means anything is if 0bama is convicted by the Senate of an impeachable offense....It is not happening in any reality. Bill O'Reilly needs to lay off the crackpipe.

Removal is the whole point. Bill Clinton was impeached and that did not impact his ability to govern in any way shape or form. The House could spend 24/7 drafting articles of impeachment against 0bama and it won't mean squat unless he is removed from office by the Senate.

Agreed this Congress has little or no inclination to impeach Obama regardless of what he does. However, such a blanket amnesty by Executive Order would rip the country apart. The Supreme Court would have to decide if he has such power. However, if the court narrowly says it was OK, I could see many states refusing to recognize these new "citizens" and bar them from voting. I think such actions could fan the flames of secession from the union in many states. I also think all but the most die hard liberals in Congress would revolt in the face howling mobs back home or just resign.

I'm not a tinfoil hat type, but for the first time I see this country on the verge of tyranny and one party rule. Even a military coup would not be unthinkable if Obama is so foolhardy.

Thanks for the reference. The debate as to how to construe the phrase is as old as the Republic, if not older. At any rate, “high rimes and misdemeanors” isn’t like a court/lawbreaking trial, where one has to find the statute being offended, etc. The reference you cited expands on that premise, and notes the essentially political nature of a presidential impeachment proceeding.

But he can only be impeached for high crimes or misdemeanors. The grounds for impeachment are pretty narrow.

You forgot treason and bribery.

The President has no Constitutional authority to grant citizenship. It is an abuse of power to do so. It threatens the very existance of this country as we know it.

If the people of this country and their represnetitives were up to the task, and that's a pretty big if, they could impeach the president, give him a Senate trail, and remove him.

Why not? The executive has no grant of authority in this matter under the Constitution. To issue an amnesty by Executive Order would be a naked usurpation of powers and prerogatives the Constitution reserves to Congress.

And his firing of the GM CEO?

And his putting the unsecured UNIONS ahead of the secured bond holds in Chrysler?

And his bill requiring every US citizen to purchase a private health ins policy?

And his keeping of the porkulus slush fund and not returning to the treasury, and then demanding more from a complicit congress?

And his appointing of hundreds of czars without Senate approval?

And his extortion of $20 Billion from a corporation - BP?

And his demand that a corporation, BP, pay for laid off oil workers that became laid off because of his shut down of their jobs?

I cannot remember all the others. I sued to keep a list but gave up when the file became too huge and consumed too much time for no end in sight.
