Admiral Mullen is not in General Petraeus’ chain of command.

Well said PB. There was the Scoop Jackson wing of the Party that fought the commies. The Scoops got ran out and embraced the secularists/atheists. Just like renaming communism to socialism or progressivism, the atheists call themselve secualarists. In reality they are the liberal atheist cult.

Mullen can say what he wants, but he is not in the chain of command. Petraeus reports to Obama, not Mullen, and the decision will be made by those two.

I hope so. Mexican cooking really needs cilantro.

You’ve both made a point about Adm Mullin not being in Patraeus’ chain of command. He is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff which I always understood to be at the pinnacle of the uniformed military, and then you have the civilian bosses etc. The CIC rank must be what you mean? Don’t forget the “chain” which must be respected in the military (until now).Of course Bambi thinks that no one or no-thing stands between him and any no good mf he wants to take down. Never mind the courts, the Constitution, the law, past practices, common courtesy, international norms of diplomacy, whataver. He GETS his way.

Admiral Mullen is not in General Petraeus’ chain of command.

With respect to you both, that's a technicality that doesn't mean very much because the only aspect of the chain of command that matters to Obama is that he's at the top. And, the reason the war is being lost militarily is because Obama is waging it politically, to achieve his own agenda, which is not victory. Everything he has done so far clearly demonstrates that for Obama, his political agenda trumps the military necessities and considerations.

All these military officers, Petraeus, Mullen, McChrystal, et al., whatever their relative relationships to each other in the chain of command may be, are nothing but expendable chess pieces to Obama. He will move them around the geopolitical/diplomatic board, play them against each other, and sacrifice them whenever convenient to the furtherance of his agenda.

I still haven't seen confirmation of the Mullen story, but if true, at whose behest and with whose permission did Mullen, who happens to be Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, make those assurances to Karzai? If Obama didn't give permission and doesn't back him on it, then Petraeus must immediately repudiate them and state his clear intentions to change the ROEs. If Mullen acted with Obama's approval, then my statement stands - Petraeus has been outplayed. As I said, his window of opportunity to make a clear break with the current failing policies is narrow, and closing further by the hour.

I completely understand everyone's desire for Petraeus to be the man to turn this nightmare scenario around. I sincerely hope all of you are right and I am wrong. As with most of these issues, time will tell, and in this instance, a very short amount of time is all there is.

If all the Sun shows were like this...the citizenry could get educated....but then I am dreaming..

No, you're right. As those shows get preempted by infomercials, the people will become more informed.

I don’t have any desire for Petraeus to turn this around. I think it was a mistake for us to stay in Afghanistan after we defeated the Taliban. My strong preference would be for Petraeus to oversee a rapid, orderly, and complete withdrawal of all US military forces fron Afghanistan beginning tomorrow. My comment was strictly a statement of fact. In the real world none of the Joint Chiefs’ opinions carry any authority.

The Joint Chiefs are advisors to the President; they don’t command anyone. They are not in anyones’ chain of command. General Petraeus and Admiral Mullen each have the same immediate supervisor- the Secretary of Defense.

My comment was strictly a statement of fact.

Nor did I dispute your facts. I simply explained that they were not a relevant factor in this issue. The argument I was making had nothing to do with Petraeus' and Mullen's relationship in the chain of command. As I explained, it was based on the possible political message and signals being sent by Obama using Mullen. It could just as easily have been Eikenberry or Hillary for that matter who delivered the message to Karzai.

And given the fact that we are probably fated to have only the same two political parties in our future (unless we have only one known as The Party), I sometimes take the arcane view that we conservatives should be trying actively to move BOTH parties to the right, not just the Repubs.

Now, how in the world we get the Dems to begin reconnecting with their long lost Scoop Jackson wing....??

Probably, or possibly at least, it might entail reminding the Dems that many of their rank and file believe in God. (Maybe even a few of their elected reps secretly believe in God too.)

If history has taught us nothing else, it is that the leftist attempt to “kill” God will absolutely fail. I don’t know a more reliable fact than that. Rather than an ending point to be made on the final page of a recounting of the Cold War, perhaps it is a starting point for us now, here, as it is clear the Cold War has re-ignited (pardon the inverted pun) inside America.

At any rate—

Pray for Palin and America. We have two elections left. After that, we have either somehow restored our republic or we will likely be facing an elitist communist police state with gulags, “informing” and cults of paranoia. The leftist trajectory always ends up in the same place: Hell on earth.

For July 4th, 2010

Just a note. At least TODAY, July 4th, we can avoid Joe Lieberman, John McCain, Lindsey Graham and even Joe Biden. These idiots are all overseas with the troops. I can only wonder if anyone in our great military will step forward to say hello?

Lord, if there is any way to keep them there, I pray you will provide the means. (Sorry, just a quick prayer)

I’m so sorry to dissapoint you sir but Lieberman is on FNS, McCain is on FTN and Graham is on TW on the Fourth of July.

See you tomorrow. If it’s any consolation, we can complain bitterly amongst ourselves then.
