Vice President Biden called the manager of a custard shop outside of Milwaukee, Wis., a "smartass" after the man asked him to lower taxes.
Biden made the comment Friday after the Kopp’s Frozen Custard shop manager told him that his dessert would be on the house if he lowered taxes.
"What do we owe you?" Biden is heard saying in footage captured by WISN-TV.
"Don’t worry, it’s on us," the manager replied. "Lower our taxes and we’ll call it [the custard] even."
"Why don’t you say something nice instead of being a smartass all the time?" Biden said a few minutes later.

This sounds to me as though Biden yet again, was attempting to be humorous. The only reason I say this is because Biden is so bad at delivering what he thinks are humorous lines. If he wasn't so full of himself he might be really funny.
Did anyone see or hear the comments in context?
Biden was just pissed that they did’t have any amaretto topping for the custard!

Biden should know a lot about asses - he works for one.
THIS CAN BE A MOST POWERFUL COMMERCIAL FOR THE RNC TO START RUNNING... but being the girlymen pu$$ies that they are... we will NEVER see a commercial like that.

The part I find interesting about Biden’s quote is the “... all the time” part. How does he know the manager is a “smart ass” all the time?

I don't care a whit for Jabberin' Joe (He just can't help it)...
But this was just a humorous guy-moment over a cup of custard...

The shop owner should have said, “It’s usually $1.50, but for you $3.”
“Why is that?” Biden would ask.
“Fairness,” the smiling owner would say.
Taxpayers are paying for Biden’s “smartass” remarks.
No. They didn’t pay. The manager was on Fox & Friends this morning. Nice guy. He wasn’t trying to make a political point. I commented that he just said what everyone is thinking — they’d like a tax break. He’d been joking with Biden prior to this film, and he really didn’t think he was saying anything untoward.
I should point out that Kopp’s is the premier custard stand in Milwaukee and environs. It is IMPOSSIBLE to be in a sour mood at Kopps, their product is SO GOOD. What should have been a plus for the VP and the Senator was turned into a great negative here because members of ALL parties love their Kopps.
I saw the film, and it is hard to understand. I did not hear the “all the time” ending. I heard “smartass” and “Why don’t you say something nice.” And it was unclear who he was addressing that remark to. It could have been to one of the staffers, or to Feingold. I wonder about allowing Biden to scoop his own cone? Did he wash? He put on a hat, but I’d be worried that he contaminated the product.
This is just another one of those incidents where big bully Joe can say anything he wants, but the ordinary folk are not allowed to talk back. Joe is so full of his elitism that I’m surprised that he could choke down his custard. For sure, it was wasted on him.

Calling a taxpaying voter and employer of Americans a “smart ass” is in no way like calling the most high VP of the US “Joe Biteme” or using the word “macaca”.
