EDITORIAL: Gun grabbers treat criminals as victims

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and the Violence Policy Center (VPC) are peddling the notion that concealed-handgun permit holders are a danger to society. Last month, the center released a report claiming that in the past three years, 166 people were killed by holders of concealed-weapon permits. A closer look at the evidence suggests that many of the so-called victims of gun violence were criminals. Because more than 6 million Americans hold permits, it is important to set the record straight.

As one of the most populous states with a right-to-carry law, Florida has the most concealed-handgun permits. Between Oct. 1, 1987, and May 31, the state issued them to 1.8 million individuals. So far, just 167 permits have been revoked over any type of firearms-related violation. Most of those involved trivial, nonviolent infractions. To put that figure into perspective, the annual revocation rate is a minuscule 0.00017 percent, with just three revocations since January 2008. More people are killed every year by falling vending machines than by holders of a concealed-weapon permit.

You wouldn't know that from the rhetoric of the gun-control groups, which portray Florida as a dangerous place to live because of its laws. According to the VPC report, the Sunshine State accounted for 17 of the 96 "killer" permit holders nationwide, far more than any other state.

A recent Fox News investigation shot holes in the study. No charges were ever brought in seven of the Florida cases. One case clearly did not involve a permit holder - the person was, in fact, charged with illegally carrying a concealed handgun. Two cases that are

“The Comrades at BRADY need some Serious COUCH TIME!!” I’ll go that one better, they should be compelled to be target holders at my local firearms range here in Florida.

The gun grabbers have never met a thug, murderer or rapist that they didn't like. They also never have any problems telling bold face lies to suit their agenda.
If you want the plain, unvarnished truth, the police are ten times more likely to shoot innocent victims than are concealed carry permit holders, and a hundred times more likely to have an accidental discharge.

The left is rooting for the criminals who are just “taking what is rightfully theirs” from those eeeeevil successful hard-working people who earn and produce.

So the Brady Campaign finally comes out from under the sheets to reveal, VOILA, they side with the criminals!

This is not a surprise.

You can probably find crime money behind many of the various anti-gun operations in this country, and probably a lot of it in the campaign warchests of politicians who like to pass laws restricting guns.

Well, of course, that's their job! (sounding inconsolably naive)

Yup, couldn't help myself on that one! Still, it's true. We have a gazillion permit holders and they almost never shoot anyone. On the other hand, we have many fewer police and they are out there shooting people all the time (all in an effort to control crime, vice, and the American way of life.)

The percentages and odds are dramatically different.

Now, the accidental discharge deal? Wouldn't count on it if the basis of comparison is "picks up gun, has discharge". I think your non-cop permit holder is going to have more discharges than the cops ~ now maybe some cops have a higher incidence of discharges, but are they going to tell an interviewer about them?

Hunh? I think not!

As I've pointed out before, the VPC & Brady Bunch never achieve anything except by propaganda and deception. Tells you everything you need to know.

In any case, they're dying on the vine, and good riddance. This latest lame attempt at promoting their agenda is little more than a death rattle.

All liberal Democrats treat criminals as victims. They support gun control because it gives the government and the criminals more power over law abiding citizens. Criminals are the loyal base that supports the Democrat Party. Without criminals there would be no Democrat Party in America today.

I have argued for years that the term, “gun grabber” should be replaced with the actual intent, “criminal coddler”.

If the American public suddenly developed an appetite for self-defense using knives, the same idiots that are after guns would then be after knives. This has always been about insuring that criminals have their “constitutional right” to commit crimes, never about making law abiding citizens safe!

Well, assuming that the “society” mentioned comprises thugs, robbers, and thieves, I would have to agree. We are a danger to that “society.”

How about "gun-grabbing criminal coddler"?

How about “gun-grabbing criminal coddler”?

The problem I have with that is it tends to water down the emphasis on coddling criminals - and THAT is what these people are all about.

If you look at the sphere of influence these people move in, it includes anti-guns, anti-police, liberal courts, reduced jail sentences, and anti-death penalty. The one common thread throughout is “these poor little criminals.”

I wish I could find it, but some idiot that was a vice-president of Handgun Control back in the 80’s said something to the effect of, “I don't care if a woman wakes up at three AM with somebody trying to rape her, she still shouldn't kill him. The penalty for rape is not death.” That really sums up the entire gun control movement and it's purposes.

Adds a little perspective to liberal hysteria...
