Just Dial 911? The Myth of Police Protection
The Freeman ^ | Richard Stevens

Posted on 06/28/2010 5:12:37 AM PDT by LuigiBonnafini

Underlying all “gun control” ideology is this one belief.” “Private citizens don’t need firearms because the police will protect them from crime.” That belief is both false and dangerous for two reasons.

First, the police cannot and do not protect everyone from crime. Second, the government and the police in most localities owe no legal duty to protect individuals from criminal attack.

911 is government sponsored dial-a-prayer.

These same liberals will do all they can to leave us with even less police protection.

Right. The police are just the cleanup crew.

In the last several years, I have had to call 911 4 times. The shortest response time was 20 minutes, the longest with a theft in progress, was over an hour. Recently my next door neighbors got into a knife slinging episode and it took 37 minutes for a police response with all of the participants of the knifing long gone.

The best option seems to be shoot the intruder(s), wait for them to quit bleeding, then call 911. That is our strategy anyway.

Me:

When Seconds Count The Police Are only Minutes Away

The cops, when seconds count they’re only minutes away.

I would love to see one of those commercials where an intruder breaks down the door only instead of the woman running to the bedroom and cowering in the corner while the alarm system goes off, she runs into the bedroom and returns with a Glock and nails the sumb*tch with 3 rounds of .45 ACP. When the alarm company calls to tell her that the cops have been notified she calmly tells them no hurry, and please send an ambulance as well.

Courts have ruled it is not the police duty to protect you unless you are a protected class.

Also, if you are not protected on private property like a Mall you can sue the owner. Not so on public property.

If you are about to be raped or mugged, which one would you prefer to say?
Stop or I’ll call 911!
Stop or I will shoot!

Glock when a 5 minute response time is a death sentence.

The Police protect us from crime? That would require each citizen to have a personal police officer with them 24/7.
I can not remember any news report of the police preventing ANY crime.
If you do not take responsibility for your own protection then you have none!

The main three reasons for the police are to write traffic citations[ revenue for the government]and protect politicans [mayors, judges, local, state, and federal] and to keep order.

When the alarm company calls to tell her that the cops have been notified she calmly tells them no hurry, and please send an ambulance a hearse as well.

Small edit.

Just Dial 911? The Myth of Police Protection

And a 'Myth' it is, and a BIG ONE.

I listen to the Chicago Police calls over an online scanner. And you can't believe the responses from the beat cops when some 'job' gets assigned to them. Even when its a possible (probable) life threatenign situation.

"I'm a long way from that, can you get someone else."
"I'm still doing paperwork from the last 'job', and can't get there."
"My car is down, the battery just died"
"I'm in the Station. Assisting 'x'."
"I'm 10-99 (single officer squad car) and will need backup."
"I can't find that address, is there a phone number to call."
"I'm almost done with this 'job' and can get there in about 15 minutes."
"I'm here and don't see anyone. Can I 'code this out'."
Now these are for all 9-11 calls.
It makes no difference if its a Parking Violation complaint, a Spouse beating the hell out of his 'wife', shots fired, a Silent Bus Alarm, or a Robbery in progress.

And the 'tone' is like, 'yeah. okay, whatever'. Now that's prolly due to the fact that they get these calls every single day. So nothing is really 'urgent' -- except for a '10-1', then they all fly like superman to a location. Oh, a 10-1 is 'Officer Needs Assistance'

Understand I'm NOT blaming the Beat Cops. Some of the stuff they HAVE to do, like give rides to people (I'm series) is ridiculous and NOT a cop's job. And the CPD is seriously undermanned, but Daley WON'T HIRE more cops. And the moral of the Beat Cop is almost zero.

OOPS, almost forgot -- if a Beat Cop gets flat tire while on patrol HE has to change the tire himself. That's IF he has a spare tire to begin with. (I know that would make my day. /s)

So yes. Calling 9-11 for a Cop to save your life is a waste of time and a BIG MYTH.
If you are unarmed, unless you lock yourself inside a Gun Vault right after dialing, you're dead meat.

Just Dial 911? The Myth of Police Protection

Just like taxing us more will make us prosper, just like regulating us more will make us free, some people think disarming us will make us safe.

Yep.....it's just a governmyth.

Police dept in Dallas, TX decided it didn’t want to respond to burglar alarms, so they started requiring the business owner to verify the alarm. This has led to numerous shoot-outs and increased burglaries. After all, if the cops aren’t going to respond, you’ve got a much larger time frame to complete your burglary.

And the small business owner has to go up against multiple armed people. And insurance costs skyrocket since the companies know there’s no effective police coverage.

On a related note, my wife and I are real estate appraisers. It’s not unusual to find that the alarm system, which is supposed to be “off” was “on”. Average response time is approximately 20 minutes. You see the alarm ads on TV where the alarm company is calling to see if you’re all right. Doesn’t matter. You’re already assualted or dead by the time the police arrive, even with the alarm system.

As I recall, the legal ruling which decided that police have no duty to protect” any given individual came about because of a man who had acid thrown in a woman’s face, in retaliation for her leaving him. State of NY vs Pugach, or maybe Riss vs Pugach. Anyhow, it was a famous case in its day (circa late 1950s/early 1960s), not least because the woman (A) eventually went blind as a result of her injuries and (B) later married the man responsible for her blinding (who went on to torment other women). The terrible case of Linda Riss and Burt Pugach was made into a very good documentary called “Crazy Love”, and anyone who wants to see it can get it via Netflix as either a disc or as an instant viewing download to their enabled Blu Ray or PlayStation.

How you feel about dialing 911 for police protection depends on if you are a Democrat, a Republican, or a Redneck.

No safety anymore, just security.

You know, the cameras that make it easier for the police to identify your killer. There is no such thing as public safety anymore.

Just clean up crews and mild punishment.

Wish I would have thought of this when I was trying to explain to my friends from Denmark why I bought my 21 year old daughter a handgun. They couldn't understand why anyone needs a gun. I tried to explain that I never intend for her to shoot it (except for target practice). Just placing that little red dot on the intruder's chest is all the crime deterent my daughter will ever need.
