Napolitano: ‘You’re Never Going to Totally Seal That Border’
cns news ^ | 6/28/10 | Adam Cassandra

Posted on 06/28/2010 9:17:29 AM PDT by Nachum

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, whose agency is charged with securing America’s borders, told an audience in Washington, D.C., in reference to the U.S.-Mexico border, “You’re never going to totally seal that border.” Napolitano spoke and answered questions at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) on “Securing the Border: A Smarter Law Enforcement Approach,” on Wednesday. When asked if she could give a timeline on when the border would be secured, Napolitano said, “The border is as secure now as it has ever been” but that the border will never be totally sealed.

We don’t have to totally seal the border.
Creating an environment where illegals will self-deport is the answer.
With less traffic comes easier enforcement....

We need to stop the freebies for illegals.

That will help a lot.

You’re never going to totally eliminate murder either but that doesn’t mean we stop enforcing the laws against murder. You do whatever is possible to legally minimize the crime at issue.

She’s right, you will never completely seal off the border. But for God’s sake give it a try! Our children suffer because of the massive amounts of drugs coming across. California has an outbreak of Whooping cough, guess what group it started in?

You will never seal the border.......until you start. They know that full well. These fools in Washington don’t care about the rest of the country. Republicans and Independents need to hammer at this and keep hammering until it is brought up on the floor of the House and Senate and keep it on the floot until something is done. If they don’t, people will start getting hurt, in a serious way.

Build the wall.
Heavily fine US businesses which employ illegal aliens.
Heavily fine US real estate firms which rent or sell to illegal aliens.
Enforce existing laws and deport violators.

I don't care if the border is not 100% sealed. Just start making an effort. Sheesh!

A reasonable attempt would be a good start.

Considering that a reasonable attempt to seal the border has never been tried, but is required by law.

First obey the Constitution and enforce the laws, folks, and then later we can talk about the remaining cleanup required.

Curing 99% of the cancer cases is the maximum we can do, therefore we will not cure any.

Seal the border the best that can be done (especially since many illegals cross legally on tourist visas and then just stay), make it uncomfortable to stay here illegally and every expensive to hire illegals and the number of illegals will be reduced. Do that for ten years and we might even be willing to discuss the terms of amnesty for the couple of million still here after that... maybe.

Yep. It's almost like they know the Mayan doomsday prophecy is real and they're all trying to grab as much as they can before the big event.

If they don’t, people will start getting hurt, in a serious way.

I live in a rural area of SE Tennessee. I've seen illegals with MS-13 tattoos several times over the past year or so in my area. It's only a matter of time before this explodes. People who live around me won't put up with chaos created by a bunch of illegal thugs.....

It sounds like she’s saying that it will not occur under this or any other like minded administration because they’re not going to attempt to seal the border.

If the Israelis can damn near secure their country with their walls, we can sure as hell give it a go. Or as others pointed out, make life here a living hell for the illegals so they return on their own.

It take balls and a spine to do something many weak-kneed liberals disagree with. We need someone with balls (or not depending on the gender) and/or a spine of steel to do something about this attempt to overrun our country and turn it into a 4th world cesspool.

Isn’t Napolitano making the case in public for the State to Seize the Assets of Federal Agencies and Federal Employees.??

There was a recent decision upholding the right of the State to use Civil Asset forfeiture against a citizen because he “might” use the money for something illegal.

seems to me Napolitano is Openly admitting that she and other Federal Employees and Agencies will use their Paycheck for Illegal Activities, Open Defiance of the LAW is an Illegal Act in and of itself. Begin CIVIL ASSET FORFEITURE of All Federal Employees in the State, beginning with Janet Napolitano.

Napolitano: ‘You’re Never Going to Totally Seal That Border’

A totally stupid argument used by people who have no intention of even trying the thing the say can never be totally accomplished. But since Napolitano and the Dims like this one so much, here are a few others

We're never going to cure all the sick people.

We're never going to catch all the criminals.

We're never going to convict all the criminals in court.

So don't even make the effort in any of those areas, either. The list is endless, and the general argument one for morons and people who have no intention of even trying to any extent at all.

The Israelis have put up a security wall that stands about 30 feet tall. It has been very effective in stopping terrorist attacks both by car and by foot. Think of what it could do for our illegal immigration problem and the Islamic terrorists coming across!

What if there was a private fund raising drive, (by FR?) that was tax-deductible, to finance the construction of a border wall like this? The funds that would be raised could be used to hire the Israeli firm that built the wall in Israel with the stipulation that they hire skilled Americans for its construction. This would rankle Obama like you wouldn't believe. And we'd need a few token illegal Mexicans to help build the wall so it would bring some irony to the whole story.

We don’t have to totally seal the border.

That is the crux of the issue. The reason she said 'seal' is that she knows it cannot be done, and it isn't what we want. We don't want the borders CLOSED.

What we want is border SECURITY.

That is what she is responsible for, and she is failing at it. She is just trying to dodge the issue by using a strawman argument.

In far eastern calif, when illegals are caught in desert crossings, they go 2 jail for two weeks. Here, crossings are EXTREMELY RARE. Meanwhile, in parts of Arizona where they don’t feature the two week jail hold, crossings abound —they’re completely off the hook.

The bare minimum they could have done starting years ago would have been to also have the 2 week hold.

They weren’t even doing that —it was more or less a ride back the same day, or the next day. Sorta like a drop-off at school for kids.

This is not some logistical difficulty —UAV’s now present hyperEfficient ways of surveilling HUGE tracts of desert, day or night. In fact, at night the task made considerably more easy.

When she said “as secure as ever”, she was using lawyerly weasel words; the border is insecure today, and it was insecure 10 years ago.

See? She was being HONEST. It’s the “non-lie LIE”.

Border security is TECHNICALLY easier than at ANY point in world history.

I hear Janet loud and clear: Just Give Up!

Then President Zero can concentrate on more important matters - like figuring out how to break his pledge on middle-class taxes without looking like a total phoney.

Problem is, sealing the border is more than just a wish, it's become a national security issue. Unless the citizens are supposed to ignore rapes, robberies, home invasions, disease epidemics, drug smuggling, terrorist infiltration, and all the costs incurred by allowing millions of undocumented workers to make the USA their 'home away from home'.

“The border is as secure now as it has ever been”
Napolitano will have to live with those words the rest of her tenure (may it be a short one).

I could be wrong, but I think Congress has appropriated money for the wall. They just won't build it. Without federal permits, it's not going forward. I also seem to recall that at least one section was built. It was quite short, and I think the cost was $3000 per linear foot.

The US government will not permit border security. They want the situation we have right now.
