Cronkite Targeted by Soviet Intelligence
Accuracy in Media (June B AIM Report) ^ | June 16, 2010 | Cliff Kincaid

The late CBS Evening News anchorman Walter Cronkite is named in a just-released FBI document from 1986 as being targeted in a Soviet “active measures” campaign against President Reagan’s anti-communist foreign policy. Cronkite is named as a possible member of a U.S. delegation that would sign a pro-Soviet “People’s Peace Treaty.”

Cronkite, once known as “the most trusted man in television news” because of his influence during the time when three network news programs dominated the national dissemination of news and information, bears a great deal of responsibility for the American military defeat in Vietnam and the communist conquest of that Southeast Asian country.

We can’t let them slink back into the shadows again.

That reminds me. I watched my dog kill a mole this morning. He reared up and pounced on the mole to pin it to the ground, then grabbed its head, pulled upward and bit down at the same time. There was a satisfying crunch and no more mole.

Comrade Walt didn't have to be “targeted”.I'll wager that *he* contacted *them* asking them how he could help.

Cronkite’s first encounter with Soviet KGB operatives would have been in Moscow during the late 1940’s when Cronkite worked there as a reporter for the United Press.

He always struck me as being blessedly free of the ravages of any sort of intelligence...

Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

My grandmother was from Eastern Europ. She hated communists and she absolutely despised ‘Crankcase.” She instinctively understood the level at which these pigs played the game...

Your post is MY post. I feel exactly as you wrote! In later years of his life, when I would see that pompous ass sailing around in his boat with fatuous teddy I wanted to spit.

walter was a prig. Of the first order. And the article we are responding to does not surprise me in the least

Thank you. The Cooper - Church Amendment to the budget gutted South Viet Nam twice— Once in 74 and then again in 75 -both times cutting 50% from assistance. They had no supplies— bullets or parts — It was murder of a free nation we had liberated . The DEMOCRATS knew that the media would shield the murder from the the Sheeple. The DEMOCRATS could not allow Nixon and Kissinger to have the historical victory. Cronkite was on the team to cover it all up so the Sheeple would not see it. He was despicable!! That is the truth. Look it up!!

God Bless you Brother or Sister. We were there— Not in Viet Nam but we witnessed the assassination of our victory by Walter Cronkite. He was a communist in my opinion. I know your pain but we both know the truth and I will not kick the dead horse to restate that truth. I have felt very alone— I have two college degrees and a wonderful wife that has heard my speeches on the War and the propaganda that stole the truth. Sleep well my friend in the knowledge that at least there are two of us.

“At Columbia University in 1983, a young Barack Obama wrote sympathetically about groups involved in the “nuclear freeze” campaign and the dangers of “militarism” and expressed the hope for total disarmament. As President, he is pursuing the goal of a world free of nuclear weapons, which many experts say is unverifiable, and just signed a new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty with Russia that he wants ratified by the U.S Senate. Obama is opposed to modernization of the U.S. nuclear deterrent.”

How did they get copies of the Columbia paper?

Cronkite certainly was useful to the Communists, and the more-so because he was trusted by so many Americans. His propaganda would not have been allowed during World War II.

He should have been tried for treason.
Agreed, along with Hanoi Jane Fonda, they were practically joined at the hip.

Don't forget Comrade Kerry. He had direct discussions with the commies. Makes you wonder which other government people are traitors.

Was this not the same effort that recruited Ted Kennedy to launch a PR effort on behalf of the USSR against Reagan’s foreign policy?
