Attorney General Mark Shurtleff said Monday he is working with officials in Utah and Mexico to create a Utah-specific guest-worker pilot program that he believes could serve as a more forward-looking course for immigration reform than the path Arizona has followed.
I do feel very strongly that those who are going to be opposed to the Arizona-style law have to have a counterproposal. Just saying no isnt going to cut it, he said. Utah can take control of its immigration destiny by having a comprehensive plan in place that addresses things like employment and security.

A recent CBS poll indicates that well over 53 percent support Arizonas SB-1070, while 17 percent believe it doesnt go far enough. Yet, this clown is making deals with Mexican officials? WHAT IS HE SMOKING? Its time for Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff to step down.
No good unless the border is secured first!
Geez, lets see, we have 9.7% unemployment among American citizens and we need to develop a worker program for foreigners to work in America? How progressive.
Bring me illegal converts ping. Send illegals on missions ping.
Makes you miss economic genius of Reed Smoot and the integrity of Douglas Stringfellow .
Send illegals on missions
AMNESTY would change that awkward situation..
We NEED as much misery as we can get here.
Maybe if we can only get more Mexican serial killers, murderers, rapists, child molesters, gangs and thugs - maybe the libtards in charge will get a family member in a ‘close encounter’ - for that is exactly what it’s gonna take for them to consider doing something else.
Until we have enough of our esteemed leaders burying some loved ones - nothing will change. They actually believe that they are following some higher calling, and are ignoring the facts and the will of the people. Unfortunately, the rest of us will have to suffer open war in our neighborhoods until enough people have been victimized - who are members of the leadership’s personal family - until the leaders decide to do something.
Watching the robberies, murders, rapes, molestations of unknown people has no effect on them.
Yeah, they are that blind.
Secure the borders first! Enforce employer sanctions. When they’ve all gone home, then, consider guest worker programs. Right now, there are very few jobs we need Mexicans for. There are many that people want Mexicans for, so they can save some money. That means those employers are stealing from American workers, and also from American taxpayers when we pay the hidden costs of having that cheap labor here.
This kind of meddling by a state is clearly unconstitutional. A state cannot have a more relaxed law on immigration than the feds. A state cannot call someone legal who is illegal.
AZ on the other hand just regurgitated federal law and said we’re going to enforce it.
I am really concerned about the millions of illegal Scandinavians sneaking into southern Utah and the Arizona strip. Colorado City is looking for illegal breeding women. Especially if they don't speak English they just obey and do not talk back.
Ahhhh...The legacy of Mormonism!
and this from the link talking about creating a guest worker program “Arizona explored such a deal, but it was scuttled when the state passed its restrictive immigration law.”
tells us the writer has an agenda and it isn’t for legal immigration.
Not to mention that if there are employment slots for highly educated people why not advertise in states with high unemployment> Hire Americans.
illegal Scandinavians sneaking into southern Utah
That was 170 years ago..
Back when “white and delightsome” was still acceptable..
Now the morg takes whatever it can get...
Illegal Mexicans ??? ...righto then...
You dark Lamanites c’mon...
We’ll show ya how to make your skin lighter...
Whatever it is, it's in copious amounts. While to me it's clear that the AZ law does not violate the Supremacy Clause of the USC, it's equally clear that what AG Shurtleff is proposing would violate that same clause.
States can't negotiate immigration deals with foreign powers. That's a no brainer.
Whatever Shurtleff is smoking, Dougall appears to be the dealer - and these two guys are allegedly Republicans.
This is NUTS! They’ll just all leave Arizona and come here to Utah. Shurtleff needs to go.
Aren’t we aupposed to be the reddest state? We sure have a festering zit of blue in SLC.
