IF IT’S BROKE: In an immigration address short on details, President Obama said he wouldn’t support “blanket amnesty” for undocumented workers but also called a deportation of all illegal residents unrealistic.

“We can create a pathway to legal status that is fair, reflective of our values and works,” he said at American University. “Stopping illegal immigration must go hand in hand with reforming our creaky system of legal immigration.”

Obama said the “majority of Democrats” are ready to vote on changes to the country’s immigration system, but that more Republicans are needed to support legislation. “The question now is whether we will have the courage and the political will to pass a bill through Congress, to finally get it done,” he said.

Politico leads with "IN AN IMMIGRATION ADDRESS SHORT ON DETAILS", but the lamestream MSNBC and their anchor describe his speech as follows---------- ALEX WITT: "YOU KNOW MARK, I GOTTA SAY I GOT A FEW CHILLS LSITENING TO HIM THERE. IT WAS VERY POWERFUL. BUT IT WAS ALSO PRETTY HEAVY ON DETAIL AND DIRECTION"

You know things are bad for MSNBC when even lefty Politico has to admit Barry's speech was just the usual meaningless rhetoric and MSNBC still gets tingles. Maybe they need to check their water to see if someone is putting something in it.

We can’t give them blanket amnesty, but we can give them blanket citizenship.

This guy shares the same brain with John McCain.

reflective of our values and works

We are a nation of LAWS. We value our LAWS.

Those who break the law are subject to penalties of the law.

Deport them ALL.

There has to be a statistically significant increase in ammo sales after Obama gives speeches.

Yep. And Benes before him, 0bama is surrendering to the demands of an apparently more-powerful neighbor.

He is a total scizophrenic. How can he be against an amnesty, not deport the illegals and grant them a legal status. Isn’t this tantamount to an amnesty. He thinks we are absolute morons, I disrespectfully disagree.

Yes, indeed. The political translation is as follows:

We will give them all citizenship and we will never enforce the border.

We will give them all citizenship and we will never enforce the border.

The whole idea of "comprehensive immigration reform" is to give amnesty. The promise of securing the border (which will not happen) is only a reluctantly thrown bone to conservatives in hopes they can peel off enough votes. No matter what OButthole says, there will NOT be border security.

Since experience has taught us that if Barry's lips are moving, he's lying, what this statement means is this: I support blanket amnesty and don't support punishing people who break our laws. IOW: "If I can coerce the Congress to pass a comprehensive immigration bill before 2012, I may be able to make it to a second term".

No Obama I think it would be well with it to deport every illegal in this country with no pathc way to citizenship. Announce that they are being given 30 days to exit and after that as they are caught they will be tried and deported with no chance of ever applying for citizenship. It is not right to all of those who are waiting to get into this country legally to be bumed out of the way by people who crowded into line.

"Comprehensive immigration reform" is a code phrase for amnesty. As far as I am concerned, US immigration law is perfectly functional. We don't need to modify it to make lawbreakers happy.

I am a natural-born American, but have had direct experience with USCIS (former INS) regarding the immigration of my wife (a Russian citizen). Yes, it's a bureaucratic pain in the a**. Yes, there are a lot of steps and expense (filing fees, etc.), but it does what it is meant to do: create a barrier to uncontrolled immigration and ensure that only non-criminal, disease free, economically sound people immigrate.

I (a non-lawyer) was even able to accomplish the entire adjustment of status (green card) process for my wife with zero requests for additional evidence and zero hiccups, all without the assistance of an attorney.

It's not that bad folks!

P.S. It didn't affect our situation at all, but if there is one major injustice in the law, it is the fact that a green card holder cannot sponsor anyone else (not even a spouse) to immigrate. As far as I know, no other country separates families in this manner.

If Republicans regain control of Congress in November, they should introduce a law that makes anyone deported permanently ineligible for US citizenship.

.... along with the Articles of Impeachment against Obama for failing to obey a Constitutionally-sworn oath, of course!
