Now Comes the Hard Part for Petraeus (Oliver North)
Fox News ^ | July 1, 2010 | Col. Oliver North

Posted on 07/01/2010 4:03:00 PM PDT by jazusamo

Washington, D.C. — It was the speediest nomination, Senate confirmation hearing and vote to affirm a presidential appointment since President Obama moved into the White House.

Shortly after noon on June 30, just seven days after he was named to replace General Stanley McChrystal, the U.S. Senate voted 99-0 to appoint General David Petraeus as the next commander of the International Security Assistance Force (COM-ISAF) in Afghanistan. He faces extraordinary challenges. Unfortunately, the O-Team isn't likely to make a tough job any easier.

General Petraeus takes command in the midst of an increasingly difficult and bloody campaign. U.S. and NATO casualties topped 100 in June, the highest since the war began in the aftermath of the September 11 terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 on U.S. soil. The 46-nation "grand coalition" he now heads under a United Nations mandate is rife with dozens of conflicting "national caveats" that limit how troops from various countries can be deployed and employed. Placating our "allies" in this fight is a full-time task in itself.

The "surge" of 30,000 additional U.S. troops, which Obama famously announced in a surreal speech at the U.S. Military Academy on December 1, 2009, is not yet complete. Logistics support for deploying additional forces to a country suffering from "infrastructure deficit disorder" continues to be hampered by the need to move personnel, equipment and supplies into Afghanistan by air or overland through lovely places like Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. All of these routes depend on the good will of their governments and exorbitant fees for fuel, bases, security and transit rights.

Meanwhile, factions in both Iran and Pakistan are doing their best to confound any possibility of "success" -- the word Obama uses instead of "victory" -- for what we're trying to achieve in Afghanistan...

If I see this patriots name,,(Oliver North) I click on it.

I was discussing Gen McChrystal with an old Marine today and his thoughts on this McChrystal news. He said:

"McChrystal is Delta Force,,, he is Delta Force because he's a mean SOB and don't give a $hit!!!!That is Delta!

All Military hates Obama!

McChrystal ain't stupid, and Obams did just what McChrystal wanted him to do.. Except big news when McChrystal is officially retired!" McChrystal is doing what must be done for the country... mark my word,, he has a plan, Delta always does! You ain't heard the last of this old shooter and looter!

Petraeus has a high place due him in the military history of this nation.

But that said it must have been sheer duty to country and to the troops who are in harm’s way which compelled him to take on this task

Not only does Afghanistan pose more difficult problems than Afghanistan, he will most likely be betrayed a second by Barry.

Barry as you know did not have the courage to show up and vote for or against the resolution in congress which condemned the NYT ad which scurilously ridiculed a true patriot and great American.

Of course Barry’s two main ass clowns, Biden and Clinton showed up and voted against the resolution.

I admire General Petraeus but he cannot win such a difficult endeavor in such a difficult place as Afghanistan when serving a civilian administration headed by the treacherous likes of Barry, Bite Me, and the Hildebeest.

I would like to believe Gen McChrystal did this for our troops in Afghanistan and personally think he did. The ROE he wrote for Obama are untenable and I believe he knew it. Time will tell.

Fully agree with everything but the last (partly). I believe he talked to Obama before he accepted the offer about ROE and withdrawal date, if so I think he can win if Obama agreed to changes.

You are absolutly right! He did what he was ordered to do.. At some point, he figured the best fight was outside the military... Good things coming!!!Obamy done messed with Delta,,, he does not know what he's stepped in.

obama, hopefully, will leave the war decisions to the General. He doesn't need another top General to resign.

Well, you have more faith in Barry than I do.

I am sure Barry promised him the sun, the moon, and the stars.

But I cannot for the life of me think of when a Barry delivered on a promise.

In one of the greatest interviews that I have ever seen on Fox News today, a liberal icon and famed civil rights attorney named Bartle Bull who was campaign manager for Bobby Kennedy admitted before the world that he voted for McCain because he thought Obama was a “hustler”.

Barry hustles EVERYBODY, don’t you know, and if liberal saints like this guy feels he is being hustled, then Petraeus ought to have recognized that Barry’s promises are not worth diddly squat.

You make a great point about Obama and you’re right, there’s very little evidence that he would honor any promise.

That interview by Megyn Kelly of Bartle Bull was fantastic. When he said Obama was nothing but a hustler I laughed out loud because that’s exactly what he is.

I posted a thread earlier of Megyn’s two interviews:

Those two interviews Megyn Kelly had today were fabulous. the Christian guy and then following him up with Bartle Bull, long time civil rights activist with sense and courage. Wow! I tivo’d it so hubby could watch.

Megyn is great.

The corruption in this administration is so deep and widespread it would take such a labor of Hercules to clean it out.

Bartle Bull was WAY ahead of the game. I hope the powers at Fox News understand what he said.

These Black Panthers were NOT at the polls for the sole purpose of intimidating white voters. They were not there to discourage white voters that was just something they threw in for extra.

They were there to make sure that NONE of the ACORN fradulent voters encountered any problems.

” The foolhardy July 2011 “deadline” Obama has imposed for commencing U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan has emboldened our adversaries and disheartened our allies.
Coupled with overly restrictive rules of engagement (ROE) for combat operations,
the “pull-out” (troops in theatre call it the “bug-out date”) threatens to jeopardize any prospect for a positive outcome in Afghanistan. “

Petraeus was put in this position not to win, but to prevent him from running for president. There is NO other reason. Obama now will make him look bad and not supply him with the tools he needs nor the methods of engagement necessary.

“than Iraq”

Obama campaigned in favor of the Afghanistan war - he owns it. It’s a question of how much unnecessary RoE risk he subjects the troops to.

I can—
When Barry told Vera Baker he would change her life & then he knocked her up. She got shipped to the Carribean & into obscurity. That is, until the Enquirer finds her & gets the full story.

Since he voted for Obama, and a host of other reasons, I do not share your enthusiasm for McChrystal
