Members of the Chicago City Council have approved what city officials say is the strictest handgun ordinance in the United States.

Friday's 45-0 vote comes four days after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling made it almost certain that Chicago's handgun ban would be overturned. The high court ruled Americans have a right to own a gun for self-defense anywhere they live

Two things strike me, 45 member council to run a city that size is silly and the that these people so disrespect the Constitution and the laws of the country.

Ignore the Chicago law and do what you need to do to defend yourself and your family. My rights don’t come from government, they come from God.

Hopefully the people of Chicago will treat the edict from the council with the same respect the council showed the SCOTUS.

there's absolutely no reason to pay any attention to their order.

There ought to be jail time for any public official who enforces a law that has been struck down by the Supreme court.

Just out of curiosity: how many Republicans members are there among the 45?

I would love to see a bench warrant from the Supremes to arrest the 45 idiots for contempt, and have them jailed by Federal Marshals.

It appears that being killed in Chicago is preferable to you being able to defend yourself.

The world is truly upside down.

What a state should do, is outlaw abortion. Just forget about Roe v Wade. Ignore the Supreme Court. There is no penumbra to the Constitution. Abortion is now illegal in our state.

This is what Chicago is going with guns. Will the media howl?? No. If a state really did this with abortion, would the media howl? You betcha.

The gun bans only hurt good law abiding citizens ability to defend themselves. The gangs and criminal elements will acquire guns regardless of any law or ban.

This is a very shrewed move as these foul politicians are well aware that the court will be moving leftward and there is a good chance the court will reverse its recent gun ruling.

Chicago is the city that allows terrorist killers to be free and to serve on their universities and as members of the education board that teaches their children to be anti-American. Is it not disgusting that a sorry idiot place like Chicago which is totally anti-American would put in place laws that are in direct violation of the Constitution? Sounds like they are the children of Hitler and Stalin and their city free terrorist are truly Nazi scum.

Got this from Answer.com

Believe it or not, the answer is 149 - 0. AS Adema defeated Stade Olymique L’Emyrne (SOE) 149-0 in 2002, and in fact, managed it without scoring a goal themselves. SOE started scoring own goals in protest of a couple of bad refereeing decisions. SOE persevered, scoring a goal every 40 seconds, while Adema’s players could only stand and watch as SOE self destructed. I mean after about 100 goals or so, you might think they might have stopped, but no - they continued till the final whistle. This was a league game in Madagascar’s top division.

Chicago approves tough new handgun restrictions

That's a rather misleading title. Chicago is actually relaxing its restrictions from an outright handgun ban to an onerous system of licensing.

But my guess is that the gungrabbers at the AP had to frame the title at least as some sort of gungrabber victory rather than the actual defeat that this retrenchment represents.

I also noticed that the council has 45 members - that’s four or five times as many as most city councils, and it suggests an extremely bloated government. And the 45-0 vote suggests an extremely monolithic and un-diverse council.

Next they’ll try to legislate where the bullets can go....

Guns don’t kill people, people kill people and it usually involves bullets. Some lawmaker in Chi town will come up with a bullet restriction, just watch.

All one needs to understand is that in a democracy (and I wouldn’t really call us a republic any more), people get what they want.

“Richard Michael Daley (born April 24, 1942) is a United States politician, member of the national and local Democratic Party, and currently the Mayor of Chicago, Illinois. He was elected mayor in 1989 and reelected in 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003, and 2007...He took over 70% of the mayoral vote in 1999, 2003, and 2007.”

Over 70% of the people of Chicago WANT to be helpless subjects of governmental power. And they are. Their Choice!

“...The new city ordinance bans gun shops in Chicago
and prohibits gun owners from stepping outside their homes,
even onto their porches or garages, with a handgun...”
-
How’s a patriot supposed to protect his country from tyrants
if there are no shops that will sell him arms,
and even so, he is not allowed to bear them.

All of these people, and all those who enforce this law are PERSONALLY AND CRIMINALLY LIABLE for denying the fundamental, Constitutional Rights of the harmed citizens in Chicago.

That's existing precedent.

Chicago needs to consult with their lawyers.

I'm also betting a Federal District Court Judge will strike this down prior to any real harm being done...if the Illinois State Government doesn't do so first.

And you would be losing your bets.

The SC decision was so weasely worded that this was inevitable....and entirely legal.

His name is Brian Doherty. He represents the far NW corner of Chicago (incl. O’Hare) He doesn’t seem too RINO as some Lib rating group gave him the second lowest rating of 22 (out of 100) but again it’s Chicago so who knows.
