Michael Steele Must Go
Fox News ^ | 07/02/2010 | Christian Whiton

Republicans still have time to transform their concern about the explosion in the size of our government into a directed political force that sweeps elections this November. The single person who can now do the most to make this happen is RNC Chairman Michael Steele. How? By resigning.

The latest mark against Steele is the apparent exposure of a personal belief deeply at odds with Republican philosophy. Yesterday, Mr. Steele said of the war in Afghanistan that “this was a war of Obama’s choosing.” ...

Indeed, major donors have deserted the RNC. The DNC has led the RNC in fundraising. RNC headquarters is in chaos. Since February, some sixteen people have fled the communications shop alone. Novice candidates--precisely the kind of outsiders the party needs to shed its image as just another corrupt facet of Washington--have looked in vain for help from the RNC...

Everyone makes mistakes, but Mr. Steele has failed at virtually all of the tasks expected of him. He is gaffe prone, off message, and has repelled rather than attracted RNC donors. His comments on Afghanistan, reminiscent of isolationists who called World War II “Mr. Roosevelt’s war,” and who were kept out of office by voters as a result, ought to be the last straw.

There is still time for Republicans to take full advantage of overwhelming concern at the expansion of government and the shortcomings of the Obama administration. Doing so requires funneling broad discontent at Washington into a few basic principles and plans--and then communicating them clearly.

At a time when national Republicans have no natural communications platform, finding a good RNC chairman is key. Michael Steele can do the GOP a great service by triggering a search for one with his own resignation.

Those stopped a couple months after I became un-enrolled.

I was excited when Michael Steel was elected head of the RNC. That didn't last long. He has since demonstrated a barely-hidden contempt for conservatives and a glaring lack of leadership. He should resign - but he won't.

It's galling but conservatives simply have to 'go around' the RNC, as we're doing - by ignoring RNC solicitations for money and, instead, contributing directly to conservative candidates and working with local Tea Party groups.

My battle cry is the same as that of millions of disaffected Republicans nationwide: "NO MORE RINOS"!

major donors have deserted the RNC

Minor ones, too. I donate to spot individual campaigns, not the national party now- too many Craigs, Foleys, and Cunninghams. I got tired of the quarterly Republican thief/degenerate showing up on the news.

Steele and Graham should just spend the long weekend together on Fire Island, dreaming about being RATs when they grow up....

“this was a war of Obama’s choosing.”

Absurd. Steele is a clown. Republicans snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

"Steel does not go because a rat says so. Steel goes because We decided it was time..."

No. Steele goes because he is a complete MORON! And as far as I am concerned, most of the entrenched GOP leadership can go with him. These people couldn't sell a glass of water in the Sahara for crying out loud! No wonder they're in politics. Apparently they can't do anything else.

Considering that Democrats survive into their adult years, it oughta be a little bit easier for the limp biscuit known as Mr. Steele to do so. After all, he’s a RINO.

Zell Miller

Doesn't count, since he hasn't held elected office since 2005. Might as well be talking about Thomas Jefferson, who was also a Democrat of the [more distant] past. Even in 2005, Miller was a rare dinosaur - one of the very last. The few remaining Dems today who even dare to call themselves conservative, or "blue dog," or whatever bogus term they choose to use, really aren't. As I said before, when push comes to shove it's party over principle and they vote with their Marxist party leaders with a little bit of so called "arm twisting."

I do believe we have a fat load of “RINO” republicans who feel the same way
