That's an interesting point. The previous incident with the Iranian airliner lent some credibility to the claims that TWA Flight 800 had been shot down with a surface-to-air missile.

You can be sure that there is a lot of information behind these incidents (I include the 1987 Iraqi missile attack on the U.S.S. Stark among these) that won't be revealed to the public for decades -- if at all.

Why were the bodies of the individuals on that Iranian airplane naked when they were recovered? I had heard rumour that there was a good chance many were already dead when they encroached upon the airspace of the Vincennes.

They WERE already dead. None of the bodies found were determined to have died in the crash. The Iranians engaged in "body laundering."

“I wonder if this is connected to the missile downing of TWA 800 off NYC?”

More likely the Pan Am 103 Lockerbie bombing was the retaliation.

In my opinion TWA 800 was very likely a friendly fire accident.

Oh my, this is going to come as a terrible shock to those half-wits who think this was a 'tragedy'.

Wasn’t the USS Stark hit by an exocet missile in ‘87? I would imagine the crew of the USS Vincennes were on high alert to that danger, no matter what form the missile took. Has anyone definitively concluded that the Iranian airplane was not diving toward the ship? Airplanes were used as missiles on 9/11.

No. The US shot that one down too. Of course, TWA800 wasn’t flying on a direct course to a US warship in a dangerous part of the world, ignoring all attempts at radio communication. TWA800 may have just been a case of Arkancide.

I have absolutely zero love-lost for the Iranian theocracy. I DO, however, have tremendous respect for the average Iranian citizen (you think you hate their government? you don’t come close to how THEY feel).

The majority of Iranians are under the age of 25; they weren’t even born when our embassy was taken over. They loathe their own government.

They aren’t Arabs; they are Persian.

True, our forces did not shoot this airliner down deliberately. It was a terrible, terrible accident. I hate that this happened to a plane full of innocent civilians. I’m sure our Navy forces involved feel horrible about it.

All that said.....this is NOT something to joke about or “celebrate”. Human life is human life, and all precious in God’s eyes.

My original comment which apparently ruffled the feathers of some of the 'best' (har har) FReepers was that considering that Iran has been a terrorist-supporting state ever since the Assahollah and his thugs seized power in '79 and that if one of their airliners was taken out, even accidentally as it was by the Vincennes it was nothing but the universal law of karma biting those Islamic bastards on the ass.

As I said, "sh*t happens", deal with it.

couldn’t agree more. I hope that ass of theirs gets bitten hard again real soon also. I’m wishing REAL hard. I have not forgotten the ‘iran hostage crisis’ and I never will. payback is way past due imo.

Man. I can’t believe it’s been 22 years. Doesn’t seem anywhere near that long ago.
