WASHINGTON, July 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In his first immigration speech yesterday, President Obama made one thing clear to the American people: our immigration policy has stalled, and it remains stuck in place. But that standstill is not the fault of Congress or a lack of bipartisan support. The fact is the nation's immigration laws have not been enforced and the country is now paying the price for years of federal inaction.
"The federal government's refusal to crack down on illegal immigration has led to dire consequences for legal residents and American citizens," said Leah Durant, Executive Director of Progressives for Immigration Reform. "Our politicians refuse to enforce our laws while millions of Americans are pushed out of jobs every day by the hiring of illegal immigrants willing to work for less pay and lowered working conditions. It's time for the government to protect its own. It's time for the government to engage a position that enforces federal immigration law."
Polls show that an overwhelming majority of Americans favor a tough immigration policy such as Arizona's SB 1070. Comprehensive Immigration Reform equals amnesty, and amnesty is bad for working Americans.
"It's time for our leaders to enforce existing immigration laws and take a stand for jobless Americans," said Durant. "Mr. President, it is time for a crackdown on illegal immigration."

And Harry Reid, who will lead the charge for Obama...
Harry Reid: illegal aliens free loaders and scam artists
OH! THE IRONY!
From John Lollipop..
Reid, now an impassioned champion of amnesty for 20 million illegal aliens in America, once called illegal aliens free loaders and scam artists which he proposed to deal with in his Immigration Stabilization Act in the United States Senate in 1993. That proposed legislation was introduced to the floor of the US Senate with the following press release, in part, issued by Reids office on August 5, 1993. In response to increased terrorism and abuse of social programs by aliens, (I) today introduced the first and only comprehensive immigration reform bill in Congress. Currently, an alien living illegally in the United States often pays no taxes but receives unemployment, welfare, free medical care, and other federal benefits. Recent terrorist acts, including the World Trade Center bombing, have underscored the need to keep violent criminals out of the country.
The border needs to be secured, regardless of what happens to the illegal immigrants.
Remember in November.
Sounds like they’re taking the Ceasar Chavez stance.
There is a path to citizenship. However, the illegals chose to ignore it.
Try it Scumbags I dare you. and it is not 20 maybe 30 - 38 Million.
If the border is secured and the illegals in the country are given Amnesty and the Vote, it will make no difference whether the border is sealed or not. We will have a One Party State for the foreseeable future, at least until the “Hispanics” form a second party to demand unrestricted immigration from Latin America and a separate State. By then the ruling Social Democrats will be ready to use massive force against the breakaways. Whatever the outcome of that the Republic will have ceased with the first election after Amnesty.
I’d email that entire post to Sharron Angle’s campaign.
While not all of us can help our chosen candidates with donations, we sure can help them with “opposition” research. Many of these tea party candidates are short of paid staff and comprised of volunteers, oriented toward “get out the vote.”
I suspect her people haven’t heard the little gem you found...yet.
Unions and Black leaders used to support reducing immigration. It was in the 1960s that this changed. Lately, they’ve been selling out the constituent interest to import a more pro-socialist proletariat. Actual American progressives are appalled , but most are too afraid of being called racist to speak up.
re: border needs to be secured, regardless
Amen! We are talking two completely separate things but the Left thinks we want border security enough that they can hold any action on that hostage until we agree to “comprehensive” reform. Read that be amnesty.
We have come to the point where the law means nothing if the party in power chooses to ignore it. Just like the Black Panthers and the voter intimidation situation.
I guess there was a time when those elected to office didn’t need a boot up their butt to make them enforce the law. Not so now.
I watch Fox News and they put on the proponents of "comprehensive immigration reform" and one can detect the talking points, presumably poll-tested, from the amnesty supporters. An example is Laura Ingraham's interview on Thursday with Ali Noorani, a leftist immigration apparatchik. Noorani argued that the American People are frustrated and angry about immigration. According to Noorani, Americans are frustrated and angry that Congress has not taken action and passed "Comprehensive Immigration Reform". [whiplash and head spins and neck cracks]
Apparently, Americans are unconcerned with the tens of millions of illegal invaders, with the spending of 100's of billions of dollars on the illegals in welfare, food stamps, education, healthcare, frauds, scams, crimes, murders, rapes and other unimportant things. If only that d*mn Congress would only have taken action and made these people LEGAL, we wouldn't be frustrated and angry.
Delusional. The simple response to Ali Noorani would be, if Congress and the President haven't insisted up to now, that the current laws be enforced, why do you have any faith that new laws will be enforced (other than the amnesty part of course)?
He'd have no answer to that.
