I loved that movie! James Mason, Peter Lori, and Kirk Douglas. The remake was really terrible.

There has been no *remake*. There was some sort of awful YouTube-level amateur mess made.

The original is timeless. Listen to Nemo's monologues. Amazing. Disney's best production *ever*. Also, a reasonable behavioral model for any 21st century American technologically-inclined freedom-fighter.

You know, hypothetically...

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Big Sis says the borders are too big, so she’s just gonna take your tax dollars and go bonkers spending it on herself.

...But I agree! How many military and paramilitary organizations do we have? And the problem is just tooo biiiig to handle.

Feh!

SECURE THE BORDER!!!

Mk 48's are overkill and VERY expensive.

In the open ocean, just sit on top of it and bang away with your sonar. They will surrender soon enough just to get you to turn off the bloody sonar.

Just goes to show how desperately we need some common sense submarine control legislation!

And if anyone believes that this was really built in the middle of the jungle by some drug-smugglers, I have lots of bridges and land to sell them.

Here's what the article says aboout that: "The submarine seized in Ecuador was built in what was described as a clandestine dry dock of industrial proportions and even had housing for dozens of workers." I think our military keeps pretty close tabs on subs built by nations. They would not be easy to buy. I'm willing to believe that drug money could buy the technology and materials to build their own.

Wrong coast. It was captured on the Pacific side. Besides, the rumor is that the North Koreans sank the oil rig.

People think the oil is killing wildlife? Wait until the U.S. Navy hits a sub full of coke with a depth charge. /s >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Certain South American tribes fish that way, using bails of narcotic plant leaves in fish pools.A sub full of cocaine blown up, would yield many hundreds of tons of fish IMHO. What a way to clean up!/s

“The rumor is that Middle East entities provide technical & logistical support for such ops.”

Time to turn Middle East sand into glass...especially around Mecca.

If this gave them the ability to smuggle in two tons of cocaine, could we be sure they would not later end smuggle in a small nuclear weapon?

I am pretty sure that the USCG is going to need a whole new array of capabilities.

USCG is under the command of the DHS, right?

Wow, I didn’t know anything about that! I thought it would be extremely rare for anyone to own a private sub.

Very good catch, however the people tank construction is what counts. The free flood area doesn't see much in the way of delta p. A Scott Air Pac holds about 3000 psi and it is of composite construction. Of course that is in tension don't know what its compressive capability is.

"manned, or robotic?"

Manned. Robotic subs have no need for a sail, or a periscope.
