WASHINGTON The Obama administration is expected to take over control of the central information website on the Gulf oil spill response that has been run jointly by various agencies and BP for the 2½ months since the rig explosion.
The Department of Homeland Security wants a one-stop shop for information that is completely overseen by the government as it settles into the long-haul of dealing with the response to the disaster. The U.S. Coast Guard falls under Homeland Security's authority.
BP and the federal government are part of a unified command that is working together to try to contain the oil gusher, but the government has been directing BP at every turn.

Intriguing... that second article is quite cynical and I’m quite tempted to believe it.
“Never let a crisis go to waste.” — *shudder*
Concern of freedom for all Americans at the forefront of that dealing of course.
It's getting to the point that we don't deserve the freedoms we still have if we let this tyrannical regime in Washington continue on it's plotted course.
When you see a crisis as an opportunity, you have an incentive to create a crisis.
What a great 4th of July tribute.

Simply controlling the real information that controls the masses. We have a friend who lives in New Iberia who told us that it is now silent at night. It apparently use to have lots of animal noise. They can also smell the dead from their home. This administration is controlling the media so much that it is disgraceful. I pray for the Gulf. Hopefully, FreeRepublic users from the affected areas can still keep some of us informed of what is really going on.
“BP and the federal government are part of a unified command that is working together to try to contain the oil gusher, but the government has been directing BP at every turn.”
Govt has been directing? Guess that will come up in the lawsuits.
I guess you’re ok with this too?
Expect to see this headline a lot more from the socialist/fascists in power. If anyone is not freaked out about the government's ever growing control (or attempts at it) over information, they're living in a dream world.

Did the government disconnect the BP 9 frame feed so we can't see how bad the gusher is? It was my start-up page.

The factual contradictions have been pretty obvious already to those who’ve followed the corporate site and compared it with the “joint” website. They’re almost exclusively in the “making the other guy look bad while stealing the credit” category. The BP site will detail the manufacturing of some special component, the fact that it’s done and is being shipped, and the fact that it’ll be arriving in three days. Two days later the joint website will announce that the government has demanded that the special component be on hand within 48 hours. If you didn’t know it was already on route, you’d think the government had actually made it happen. This has gone on for the last two months, and it’s easy to catch them at it by comparing the sites. I guess they’re trying to remedy that.
obama finally showing leadership! In press censorship
“Did you plug the leask yet daddy?”
“Baby, you seen any reporting about the leak on the news tonight? No! If it ain’t on the news, it ain’t happening ...... Now THASS what I’m talkin about!”
As for disrupting the elections...a mass evacuation would certainly do it!
I’m torn though about the need to evacuate. I’ve read tons of info about how dangerous Corexit is and how an evacuation may be needed because of it. On the other hand, there are knowledgeable freepers who swear Corexit is as safe as dishsoap. If that’s the case...I’m wondering if, in order to disrupt elections, the government is purposefully spreading misinformation about the health risks, creating a fake crisis, in order to facilitate an evacuation.
Nope. Can’t get in.
I’ve noticed the same blustering tone. Can understand the Ofascists want to control the message. Can understand that they demand BP share information. Cannot understand or agree to the suggestion that BP would shut down it’s site or allow Homeland Insecurity to do so.
Looks like another first amendment showdown unless BP rolls over and puts it’s tummy in the air in the false hope the USG will treat them nicer in the future.
The deepwaterhorizon site has been a joint effort since the beginning, with BP essentially just printing whatever releases the feds gave them. I think the move from .com to .gov is mostly just another in the administration’s many efforts to claim it’s “in charge”. A claim that seems to appear every time there’s good news, and disappear when there’s bad news.
The BP corporate site (bp.com), on the other hand, has tended to be a bit more fact based. Hopefully it’ll continue to be a source unless the administration pressures them to silence it. If that happens, I hope they make a really big stink about it.
Here’s a useful discussion of the EPA’s findings on Corexit.

Essentially, it’s safer than undispersed oil. It’s worth noting, though, that (in one of the many unreported stories) BP offered to use any dispersant the EPA told them to, with a polite request that they choose something that’s actually available in the quantity needed. That happened the day before the EPA suddenly stopped demanding changes.
The 9 frame feed wasn’t a government site.
BP’s index with links for each individual camera is here.

I also hope the bp.com site continues to inform. At least half of the US population would prefer facts to feelings in announcements to the press.
I just hope the new cap works to funnel off oil/gas and the relief wells work.
Thanks for sending the links. Appreciate it.
