Council "bin police" are punishing hundreds of households with bigger fines than those given by police to shoplifters, it can be revealed.
Councils are issuing fines of up to £110 for such infringements as putting their bins out for collection at the wrong time, over filling bins, or putting recycling into the wrong boxes Photo: ALAMY
Figures obtained by The Sunday Telegraph have revealed that local authorities issued more than 1,240 fixed penalty notices last year for breaking rules on recycling and putting out rubbish.
Councils are issuing fines of up to £110 for such infringements as putting their bins out for collection at the wrong time, over filling bins, or putting recycling into the wrong boxes.

Sounds like Bloomberg’s NYC Sanitation Police.
Garbage nazis. Garbage collection should be left to private companies who would gladly compete for the business.
When you can’t control the criminals, you criminalize the law abiding.
Hard to believe people are being issued citations and fines for how they throw their garbage away.
This is what the West has come to. We had a good run, but the self loathing and loss of confidence in our way of life has led to this.
Anyone who believes people should be fined for what bin they toss a soda can into should be strung up by their toes.
I really think the UK deserves anything wicked coming its way. Parts of the U.S, too.
Can't have that now, can we? Government knows best. Nothing to see here. Just move along.
Sounds like a Tea Party patriot on the other side of the pond.
Don't worry. That day fast approaches. I've got rope.
The Brits got the government they asked for. They bitch about the consequences but don’t want to give up the perks.

In the People’s Republic of England, Big Brother is watching you.
And he’s coming to the US, too...
I so hope it happens in my lifetime.
The Limeys have nothing with which to shoot....
Garbage collection fees and fines. Aren’t the fees high enough?
No matter what you do, they fine you. What a horrible government.. too many of those in the world.
Sooooo...in order to Save The Planet, they used nearly 70,000 pieces of paper (not to mention envelopes, ink, stamps, gas to transport all this paper around to the offending householders,...) to gripe about the way people bin their trash. Yeah, that makes sense.
awesome quote.
bump
He’s already arrived in Seattle. Check out how Seattle defines garbage and what has to be recycled. It’s incredible.
And it occurs to me that these 'Council' members have homes, go shopping, hit the movies, a generally go about their lives. It would be a darned shame if a few of them experienced some good old fashioned shunning.

Get with the program here - they changed the government!
It’s already here in the USA. Fort Worth has garbage nazis. This tells me why the taxes are so high, paying for the garbage nazi salaries and bureaucracy.
Those who tolerate such petty dictators are destined to be ruled by stronger and more serious men. Islam will brutalize the women and girly men who inherited the once-great United Kingdom.
Changed it to what? I thought Daniel Hannan was conservative, then I heard he supported Obama. I don’t see any hope for them.
FORTY PERCENT reduction in non capital expenditures in all government departments bar two and approximately 600,000 gov workers to go over the next five years.
When we are forced to cut back I expect large cities to burn. The fleas will try to kill the dog! I just hope to live long enough to see the "progressives" brought face to face with reality.
There will be no burning out here where I live, but I don't want to be near a large urban area when reality hits home.
Fines, penalties, fees, and licenses are in reality, taxes.
Taxes are any money that is paid to the government in any manner. Just the word “tax” has been changed.
These ignorant Britons fail to realize that the “bin” scheme was only a ploy to raise taxes and really had nothing to do with ecology.
Recently, we too, experienced a “wake-up” call from the MFWHIC (Mo Fo Whats In Charge) and his collective criminal enterprise known as the Democrat party.
Until they start voting for the conservatives, I have little sympathy.
Finally. It can be revealed.
Prior to this time, the Ministry of Truth did not permit this revelation.
Waste is a terrible thing to mind.
