Robbers pick wrong target; two shot, one killed by gun-toting victim(TN)

Two would-be robbers forgot to ask their victim a key question:

Do you have a gun and know how to use it? Data Center: Search handgun-carry permits

The 21-year-old Bartlett man's answer might have prevented the two 16-year-olds from being shot.

Instead, an exchange of gunfire between the Bartlett man and the robbers Wednesday night left one teenager dead and the other wounded.

Alyssa Moore, a spokeswoman for Memphis police, said authorities have not released the names of the robber who was killed or the other teenager, who was in noncritical condition.

The robbery portion of the case is still under investigation and charges are pending. State prosecutor Thomas Henderson said Friday the office will not prosecute the potential robbery victim, saying his actions appear justified.

The man, who works for a local gun range, declined comment Friday. He asked that his name not be published because authorities told him the attempted robbery may be gang-related.

Good shooting, 80 percent hit rate. Hopefully Tennessee has laws like Missouri wherein the second robbery suspect gets charged with murder second degree because another person died during the commission of a felony.

Like I say, a hundred unsolved cases cleared, a hundred future crimes averted.

I see you picked up a bit of side box from that page. I hope that doesn't do what I think it says it does. Whoops, it does. Public records in TN. Can't find the record for Elvis, though.

It's the downside of having to get government permission to exercise your innate (and constitutional) right to self-defense - you get labelled and put on a list.

I imagine millions of people are wiling to accept GangBangers' Rights if things get worse, and simply stop registering or licensing...Since nothing ever happens to the punks.

"Like I say, a hundred unsolved cases cleared, a hundred future crimes averted."

Since the felon now taking a dirt nap was only 16, the future crimes averted number may have been even higher.

He had his whole criminal life ahead of him yet. The only downside I see is that this probably wasn't his first robbery attempt.

gun toting “victim”?

Doesn’t sound like a “victim” to me,
sounds like a responsible citizen.

No kidding. We don't need permits to engage in our rights of free speech, religion, press or whatnot. Why should any law-abiding citizen need a permit to carry a piece of personal property on his person?

So now the thugs can search the handgun database and find potential victims who AREN'T armed.

WARNING THERE IS A SEARCHABLE DATA BASE FOR CCW PERMIT HOLDERS LINKED IN THIS ARTICLE (the little box in left corner of the article) a CLEAR INVASION OF PRIVACY RIGHTS. Please let your State Senator or Rep know how you fell about this. I have already done so. Not only because it INVADES my privacy, but endangers my life. That wouldn’t work in Alaska.

NO permit required to be a fully armed citizen.

I wonder if AZ is now the same?
