I’d say Prince is dead... the internet is alive and well. Ummm, well in the sense that it is thriving, not in the sense that it’s a good place!

Prince is independently wealthy. He can record music as a hobby. His choice of distribution doesn’t matter to him because he doesn’t need the money. I don’t know what the future business model for music is, but the fact that Prince is choosing to use a distribution method that is dying says more about his leaving the world of trying to produce a profit from his music than about future distribution methods.

From the article: "His new album is his 27th release and may be distributed via Warner Brothers in the US but there will be no downloads available in the world." That will hold until the first rip and upload.
The only way to prevent downloads is not to release.

File under "Didn't know he was still alive"
He had a few decent songs back in the mid-1980s (Purple Rain era), otherwise I don't get the hype. If I had to listen to 1980s music (awful decade for music by the way), I'd pick Thompson Twins and Flock of Seagulls over him.
