LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- A be-on-the-lookout alert issued last month for 17 Afghan military men who walked away from an Air Force base in Texas has turned out to be just the tip of the iceberg. No fewer than 46 members of the Afghan military have gone absent without leave from the Defense Language Institutes English Language Center at Lackland Air Force Base in recent years, FoxNews.com has learned.
From a series of interviews with civilians and military personnel conducted over the course of a week, and according to documents obtained from a variety of sources, FoxNews.com has learned that five of these Afghan deserters remain at large; eight are in custody; at least 18 are in Canada and one has been granted conditional U.S. residency. The most recent to disappear fled the Texas base just last Thursday, hours after his graduation ceremony.

If this had happened under Bush, the media would be on this non-stop. Sadly only FOX seems to be reporting.
As long as they are loyal to America, I don’t care.
They are now EDUCATED illegal immigrants.
Their motivation is probably no more complicated than wanting to live in the USA - not Afghanistan.
Heck, if you knew the US was going to cut and run would you want to go back to your own country and wear a uniform that said collaborator on it? Besides, America ALWAYS welcomes immigrants yada, yada, yada as long as they vote for Democrats. ;-) I’m surprised it’s ONLY 46 who have bolted to the land of the free.
And as long as they don’t try to make me speak their language.
There comes a time when you have to take a look at some of this stuff and realize our nation doesn’t deserve to survive if we can’t do better than this.
This is mind-blowing stuff.
Open up a restaurant and I am soooo there!
And as long as they work and pay taxes and not stay on welfare
and reproduce like rabbits.
“This is mind-blowing stuff.”
It’s pretty unbelievable alright.....
Pray for our nation.
There could be more to this story. They could be officially AWAL but inside informants that had to leave.
Yea!Where everything is free to illegals..
So you think that we need more dirt bags that would lie under oath??

Well... I’m not sure why they would need to go AWOL since they’ve already completed the course. And evidently some of them didn’t complete the course.
I’m not ruling your suggestion out, but I don’t understand the need for it. If people didn’t already know they were there, why the secretive leave? If they did, what good would it do for them to appear to bail?
These days, being legal is a liability.
They’re patriotic AWOL Islamists. You have nothing to worry about.
par for the course...some things will never change.
Nearly Half of Illegal Immigrants Overstay Visas
U.S. Cant Trace Foreign Visitors on Expired Visa [Approx. 3 Million Visitors Unaccounted For!]
They’re all vacationing in AZ.
Mmmm... uh-huh. :>)
maybe they should conduct these classes at Gitmo
***So you think that we need more dirt bags that would lie under oath??***
You mean like the folks in the WH and Congress????
Why is our money being used to teach them English in our country?
Have they checked NASA? Maybe they’re over there working on rockets?
Hint: I’d look in the parking lot of the CVS next door to the Kabob Palace in Crystal City, just south of the Pentagon. I think half of Afghanistan and their taxis are there on any given weekday.
They were brought here at our expense to help our soldiers win this war on their behalf, and help them rebuild their own nation. If we have an operational need for them to support our troops, then they are putting our soldiers at risk by not returning for duty.
However, I do not believe that all of them are seeking a better life. I believe their allegiance is to Allah and they are a risk to our nation.
I think we are speaking of so called military people, men of Honor. These deserter are not of that type and neither are politicans. The air force needs to account for them and remove them from the country are someone needs to lose a lot of rank.
You may be speaking of military matters.
I am only speaking to the possibility that these Afghan, non-Americans may have simply decided that returning to the war is less appealing than disappearing into the American dream.(a subsequent post has made a similar point)..
Of course, this is only *thinking out loud* on a public forum - not an official CIA inquiry.
Excellent idea! The last thing we should be doing is allowing more islamic terrorists into our country.
Part of the Muslim mindset is to conquer by outnumbering the rest of us. Have you seen the video detailing the birthrates of them vs the rest of the world?
So, will we send back these guys like Elian Gonzalez while others flood in?

Ahhh, what’s a few more illegals? We let them just walk in from the south.... and this bunch even wants to give blanket amnesty to the millions already here.
As they say in Pakistan: Urdu that vurdu that urdu so well...
yes that has been my way of thinking for awhile sadly.
The only conclusion I can come to in observing the direction Western culture seems to be taking itself is that it is actively and knowingly contributing to its own demise. Its like a “white guilt” type phenomenon IMO...like “we deserve to be conquered so lets facilitate it”.
Yes, that’s more or less my take on it too.
They are AWOL to be military advisors to 0bama’s Muslim fifth column
It’s unlikely they went AWOL because they wanted to check out Spring Break on South Padre.
(1) I wouldn’t assume anything about “loyal to America” — we can’t possibly know what the motives are for each individual.
(2) If they are selected for such a program then they are NEEDED -— our people are risking their lives over in ‘stan while these (AWOL) guys are deserting -— we need them to be doing their part to secure their own ‘homeland’ -— of course we should care if they abscond here after we the taxpayers have spent much money and effort training them to help with the fight in Afghanistan.
