Rick Lazio calls out Andrew Cuomo on Ground Zero mosque
NY Daily News ^ | July 7, 2010 | Celeste Katz

Posted on 07/07/2010 5:40:30 PM PDT by Sergeant Tim

GOP gubernatorial hopeful Rick Lazio is calling out his Dem opponent Andrew Cuomo about the Ground Zero mosque proposal … Lazio demanded that state Attorney General Cuomo check the legality of the funding sources for the $100 million Cordoba House Islamic center planned near the site of the 9/11 terror attacks. “New Yorkers have a right to feel safe and be safe,” Lazio told reporters in Lower Manhattan. “There are serious security questions about the appropriateness of this mosque.” In a letter he sent to Cuomo, Lazio cited press accounts that Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, who’s spearheading the mosque’s construction, is a “key figure” in an organization that funded the flotilla that sought to break Israel’s Gaza blockade. … Cuomo, who has come out in favor of letting the project proceed, as have numerous city officials although the public is split on the issue, put out this statement via AG’s office spokesman Richard Bamberger: “Anyone who has evidence of wrongdoing should send it to us and we will review it.”

Okay; we will send his office a link to this post. After reading it, it should be obvious to New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo that Imam Rauf’s Cordoba House mosque is being funded by a conglomerate of Islamists, anti-Semites, and terrorism supporting organizations and nations.

“......put out this statement via AG’s office spokesman Richard Bamberger: “Anyone who has evidence of wrongdoing should send it to us and we will review it.”

In essence he’s sayin’ “we aren’t getting off our asses and looking into this arrogant slap in the face to all American’s, so somebody else will have to do it.”

These guys MUST be getting one “H” of a payoff to take such an anti-American attitude as to approve a mosque at ground zero.

There’s no controversy about the mosque. It doesn’t belong there, period. It symbolizes a muslim victory over the people of the West, and anyone with half a brain can figure that out. These arrogant people who are building this mosque there don’t care about America or Americans.

Rick Lazio needs to pull his head out of his ass and hammer Cuomo on his history with HUD. Cuomo the liberal politician was a major player in the financial meltdown in the US.

Cuomo is as responsible as anyone in the US for the financial and real estate meltdown. Cuomo can’t answer these questions. Lazio, don’t fall for the bait.

I am involved with all the candidates over here in NY seeking the job of NY Gov. Lazio is petitioning Cuomo as if Cuomo has already won/ Tone-deaf politico Lazio may as well be working for Cuomo, who WILL win. Ask yourself WHY Lazio is asking Cuomo to look into anything which would only serve to buff up AC’s AG credentials, and hence his Gubernatorial credibility. He shoulda already gone on the attack and make a case that AC doesn’t DESERVE to be Gov
because he’s already gone this far in letting the Mosque plan get such widespread approval.

Why wouldn’t Lazio ask the state’s AG to investigate? That’s the AG’s job, not the governor’s. And this gubernatorial candidate has come out in favor of the mosque near G-Zero.

That’s hardly acting as if Cuomo already won the governorship.

The right ones won't. The problem is the left ones outnumber the right ones 4 to 1.

Lazio has a very legitimate point, especially in light of the recent Supreme Court decision that found that monies in a charitable portion of a non-profit are to be deemed as if they were going to the terrorist portion of the charity.

Thus, in light of so many Islamic organizations having a ‘good’ and ‘bad’ side, it is not unreasonable to question an Islamic Cultural Center’s funding sources.

I hear you. I lived in MA long enough to know true frustration with my fellow voters. Every time they voted Dem taxes went up. So next election they voted Dem again. I am SO glad to be out of there. I hope Lazio campaigns well, and that New Yorkers are finally fed up enough with Dems and taxes to do the right thing.

Just start calling it the 911 victory mosque or something similar that calls attention to it’s true nature, see if that will embarrass any of these worthless pols into doing something.

I’ve only been in New York City a few times, but it was an very amazing and, to an outside, intimidating place. If it were ‘home’, I can understand not wanting to leave.

Kind of on/off topic, have you ever heard PDQ Bach’s classical rap about the Upper East Side? It’s old, but somebody set it to an Airbender video. Even if you heard it a while back, it’s fun to listen to all over again:

My point was that Lazio was playing up to Cuomo’s power and jurisdictional authority as Atty Gen’l, and if Cuomo actually DOES do something about it (don’t discount the possibility of this) it’ll be CUOMO who gets the credit, NOT Lazio. WHat I think will happen is that Cuomo will make a ‘show’ of investigating, get the ball rolling, and that it will be HIS office’s issue, going right up to Nov. 2, and it might even form part of what conceivably get him elected Governor, possibly even from a small disaffected Tea Party constituency that might come to like his style over this issue. Cuomo has also been making noises recently that are designed to make him sound like a follower of NJ’s Chris Christie (NJ is my state). I think what Lazio may have done wrong, in other words, is give Cuomo this issue to play with. If he was that interested in it, he should run on IT and other Islam-related issues w/o Cuomo’s approval or ‘certification’.
I had a very lively back and forth a week ago with the OTHER NY Gov candidate, Carl Paladino, about this whole election picture, with him included in it as a TeaParty/Third Party line candidate.

Clearly Mr. Cuomo, if that is his real name, has lost touch with his base.

Nothing like running a campaign based on DECREASING the security of your constituents.

Go Rick!

Not attending that demonstration isn't the benchmark for your stance on the issue.

I wasn't there, and it would be touch to find anyone who is more opposed to the mosque.

Well, you know I was there- and my gripe is that if he wanted to make a STATEMENT about it, and see the voters in NYC who felt strongly enough about it to be there, then he should have been there.

I'll check it out.

I don't live anywhere near NYC which is a good thing, IMHO. I'm upstate. There's a whole lot of NY other than NYC the libs that live there don't think so.. the city folk think upstate is anything north of Screaming Yellow Yonkers. LOL.

There are some good republican areas down there on Long Island and Staten Island but for the most part the city is a liberal wasteland that is infecting the rest of the state as well when the libs move out of there and up here. It's truly pathetic.

You don’t really need to listen to the video. PDQ Bach (I can’t recall his real name) was a classical music comic and composer, and quite talented. I had forgotten how ilberal his rap piece was, however. It would probably amuse somebody who lives in NYC proper even so, but a NY conservative from upstate might not find anything at all to like about it. ;)

I have heard the physical beauty of your area is just breathtaking. I have a close friend who spent two months in that region, and he couldn’t say enough about it. I hope the liberals don’t run you out. If they don’t go for Lazio this time around, you really have to wonder.

The latest poll shows Cuomo 58 percent to Lizzio 26 percent. 16 percent are unknown which could go to Lizzio...he only needs to shave off some of those 58 percent off Cuomo...I guess it could happen...November is a long time away.

If New Yorkers really are solidly against building this mosque near our sacred ground, then they really need to put the screws to pols like Cuomo and make the pressure so unbearable that they have no choice but to come out against it.
