NEW YORK, July 3 (UPI) -- A New York woman is suing Starbucks, saying her baby son was seriously injured when she dropped a cup of overly hot tea on him.
In a complaint filed Friday in Kings County, Villona Maryash said the scalding took place in a Starbucks in the Bensonhurst neighborhood in Brooklyn in October, the New York Post reported. She said her son, Arnold Glouchko, who was 5 months old at the time, was in his stroller when she picked up the tea and then dropped it because it was so hot.

yeah, maybe we shouldn’t be dropping hot tea on infants.
She shouldn’t have held it over and dropped it on her baby.
CHILD ABUSE!
She’s just trying to cover her own incompetence. Take that baby away.
What, you mean you aren’t in the habit of dangling near-boiling water over an infant?
Hopefully, it will be thrown out. The woman’s clearly not competent to be walking around with children.
“when she picked up the tea and then dropped it”
Those are the only pertinent facts in the case were I on the jury. We have to stop subsidizing lazy, stupid and criminally litigious people.
If you’re that clumsy, you ought to be buying iced tea.
Stupid, greedy cow. Let’s hope she’s shot down on this.
What, you mean you arent in the habit of dangling near-boiling water over an infant?
*****************
Or the other way around? Life is so confusing at times.
Then why did she give her baby a HOT mocha latte? Some people have their heads stright up where the sun don’t shine. Honestly. Why was the infant given a Hot Moch Latte?.
Smells like another McDonalds Hot Coffee law suit brewing.
Put the stupid mother in jail for child abuse.
The baby needed a college fund?
Come on, Starbucks is so totally liberal, this is great.
Why should Starbucks pay her for being a klutz?
Loser pays system would put a stop to these lawsuits.
Smells like another McDonalds Hot Coffee law suit brewing.
Yeah
The old lady who sued got $700,000 for that;
for holding a cup of hot coffee between her legs -— while driving !!!
Well, maybe her lawyer got most of it ..........
I see the problem, It is in English.
“Mom says Starbucks tea burned her baby”
No
Should read:
“Mom burns her own baby using Starbucks tea.”
Perhaps CPS needs to check her out.
Apparently I’m more careful with my dog than she is with her baby.
Hum...
Hot tea is hot...
Who knew?
She probably never even bothered to use the hot sleeve, which is just common sense.
I couldn't find this in the article?
I bet that George Bush MADE her drop the tea. How lame.
Perhaps the child should sue the mother for negligently dropping a cup of overly hot tea on him.
Did the cup have a jacket? If so, there is no way the cup could have been too hot.
You’ve hit that right on. I just hope the kid can enter college.
Anyone for a class-action lawsuit against water heater manufacturers?
Then the kid would be getting frostbite.
I remember when my mom had a JFG coffee on the couch arm. My brother always sat there on the floor watching TV. She had a towel that buffered the arm and the coffee. He pulled on said towel and got the wake-up call of his world. In one day he was good to go. These folks need to get punished for frivolous lawsuits.
LOL Best post!
I actually do sometimes put two sleeves on the coffee cup because they are very hot, but then again, I assume responsibility for seeing if it needs two. Because I’m not an idiot like this woman must be.
First, I DO feel sorry for the poor child: A) for his burn and B) for having that mother.
That said, it’s wonderful irony that Starbucks and all these other ever so environmentally-friendly companies use those worthless wraps against hot tea/coffee rather than styrofoam that would be preferable from an insulation perspective.
Even styrofoam isn’t that great with really hot drinks, but the reason McDonald’s stopped all their styrofoam packaging was to please enviros. Starbux takes all that politically corret envirot-crap o a whole new level.
Place leaves or tea bag in cup. Pour boiling water over it. Let steep 2-4 minutes.
Well its true. My dog is always underfoot and I take it into account when I do things like get my morning coffee.
I think a dingo burned your baby.
I never got burned like that at any Tea Party Rally's...
i can’t believe this woman deliberately dropped hot tea on her baby, but she probably did.
So here we are fast-forward to 2010. Scene: Starbucks in Bensonhurst, NY. Villona Maryash orders tea. Shes in the Starbucks with her 5-month old son in a stroller next to her. She receives the tea, and according to nypost.com, awaits her food order. She picks up the tea to take a sip, and heavens to Betsyrealizes its hot. So she drops it. The tea spills over her son, causing serious injuries.
Heres the beef: the lawsuit claims the tea was improperly served. That it did not have the omnipresent protective sleeve on it (and gee, is it now enough for coffee houses to simply provide a stack of the sleeves at the milk and sugar bar, as so many do?). Maryashs lawyer goes as far as to say proper serving wouldve also meant it wouldve come on a tray as well. When was the last time you ordered a drinksans food as the food wasnt there yetand got it on a tray at an establishment where, Im guessing, 85% of the patrons order drinks to-go?
I dont know what damages are being sought. And I am certainly sorry that a young, innocent and helpless child was on the receiving end of the spilled tea. Thats not in question here. But when will we learn that a hot beverage is, uh, HOT? That extra care needs to be taken upon taking a hot drink from the cashier. That its reasonable to expect that the hot drink may be just hot enough to cause a burn

perhaps if she wins, the settlement will give Starbucks responsibility for her child, since she clearly has none

Hot tea? Hot tea? That's totally inappropriate. It's lewd, vesivius, salacious, outrageous!
I'm a Dunkin Donuts fan myself. The liberals all fawn over Starbucks. My observations are Starbucks customers and staff are mostly white, pretentious elite types. Dunkin Donuts staff looks like a cross section of America. The Starbucks coffee has about 250 percent the caffeine as DD's. The Starbucks type of customer fits the profile of a caffeine ridden snob who no matter how stupidly she acts sees herself as righteous.
Yeah, mine is too. I sometimes forget, and one of these days, I’m pretty sure my obit will read that I died from a broken neck, from tripping on her. I hope she will at least have the good manners to be sad.
Really? Huh, last I checked, SOP for Starbucks was to double cup any hot tea and typically add on the sleeve for good measure (annoys the heck out of my wife, since they put the tag for the tea between the two cups...)
And every sympathy and prayers for the poor little child who has an idiot for a mother.
