German newspaper The Local says that Germany’s armed forces (Bundeswehr) are facing deep cuts in the government’s attempt to save nearly €10 billion.

The Defence Ministry has drafted a proposal for cuts with the Luftwaffe facing the most drastic reductions – the report says that up to 15 C-160 Transall transporters will be immediately decommissioned and the number of Airbus Military A400Ms reduced from the current requirement of 60, and 100 Tornado fighters will be retired “as soon as possible”, leaving just 85. The Luftwaffe will also not receive the last 37 Eurofighter Typhoons on order.

Helicopter numbers will also be culled with the planned buy of NH90 TTH cut from 122 to 80 and the number of Tigers slashed from 80 to 40. The German Navy will also lose 21 Sea Kings

I guess this means the US will have to pick up the slack. Seems like we are picking up the entire tab for defending Europe (while getting blasted by their leaders, save a few).

Germany, you are very welcome.

Signed,

The US taxpayer whose money has bought the US military that has helped keep you safe the past 65 years.

Is US going to draw down our military foot print too?
The Usurper is going to sign a treaty with USSR.
If we do so, I would then say that the USSR has been given a green light to invade at will.

Am I missing something?

There has not been any indication in any of the reputable defense web sites(Defense Tech,DoD Buzz that I read faithfully) that the U.S will not remove troops from Germany

Guns versus butter. National defense versus the social welfare system. We will be making similar choices as we try to fund both. Usually, butter wins because the politicians want to stay in office.

Why we must reduce military spending (Reps. Barney Frank and Ron Paul)

Folks, we have a winner!!~

It just dawned on the Germans that OUR Air Force IS their Air Force so why should they pretend?

Those planes are part of the Bundeswehr and paid by their own defense budget.
