“imagined prophecy.”

Watts never burned.

The L.A. riots were a myth.

Reginal Denny was a liar that just fell down.

Watching KRON news here in the Oakland area and they have a roving reporter who was talking to people on the streets with their opinions on the verdict and some guy just dropped an “F” bomb. Caught the newsstation off guard.

A public execution by an LEO is involuntary manslaughter? Oh boy, this is not good for any of us anywhere.

"Caught the newsstation off guard."

Of course. How could you see something like that coming, you know, with a riot brewing and all.

"In law, intent is pretty much everything.

Fall asleep at the wheel, plow into people, get away scott-free.

Drink, fall asleep at the wheel, plow in to people, do hard time."

Actually your argument is baseless. There are lots or crimes that are crimes sans intent. The drunk who drives their car into another and kills someone did not intend to kill anyone, they did not have the mens rea for murder, but they are held accountable because they were negligent. You are hung up on intent when you can still be guilty as sin by negligence.

"You’re driving down the road, minding the speed limit and all other laws, and a pedestrian jumps out in front of your truck. He dies. Should you be charged with capital murder? After all, intent doesn’t matter, and you killed someone."

Your analogy bears no resemblance to the matter at hand. The victim in this case was laying prone on the ground with his hands behind his back and was shot in the back. In your analogy, you'd have to drive off the road and run over someone laying face down in the ditch and kill them, and yes you would be guilty. And intent is not always the reason why the guilty are guilty, it's called negligence.

Oakland exodus as verdict is read

As word spread throughout Oakland around 2:30 p.m. that a verdict had been reached in the Johannes Mehserle murder trial, the downtown streets suddenly flooded with workers rushing out of their workplaces to go home.

The normally placid lanes became clogged, people hurried along the sidewalk, and there was an almost electric air of worried anticipation. BART trains streaming in and out of downtown were jammed.

At the downtown federal building, announcements were made over loudspeakers to tell everyone to go home. At many of the big businesses throughout the area, internal e-mails and other notices went out advising the same.

Yep. When you don't look at facts and intent, then it does boil down to someone "lying prone on the ground and getting shot in the back." Juries have to look at more than superficial circumstances.

I have seen them. They really need to change the grip and the color. I am thinking Taser International could have some liability since they seem to have gone out of their way in recent years to make the taser look and and fee more like a handgun (specifically a Glock.)
