“After (being pulled over) for the violation and when I could not prove my proper papers, it then went more towards illegal immigration; that I could not prove that I was legally here.”
Duhhh... If I was pulled over in ANY country on earth I could expect the same questions. Actually, I would expect WORSE and immediately!
This is a an effort on HER part ot make it into something other than it is, pure and simple!
This is the left in full action mode, making the violation of our laws into racism for political gain.
Repubs better get a voice and start some positive ads--like "we welcome LEGAL immigrants who want to become American and respect our laws." Then ask ALL races to join in keeping our laws instead of breaking into ethnic victim groups.
The Houston, TX candidate for gov. is using EXACTLY this racist dodge to rile the Hispanics to vote for him instead of Perry, and polls show it is working. So Repubs better WAKE UP. They can look to Michelle Bachmann and Sarah to see how to grow some brass ones. These two make Mitch and Johnny look like the wusses they are.

Only a Democrat would think moving was an excuse for driving without your license.
Was she naked, too, because all her clothes were at their Dominion home?
I live next door to Shavano Park. Their police force is small and very professional. I seriously doubt the police officer said this.
What I would be curious about is where the couple moved from? The Dominion is million dollar homes.
A San Antonio officer did just that for me.
I told him my DL#(not SSN in Texas), and gave him my checkbook. He confirmed the # matched the name & address on my check, and let me go with a warning.
A driver’s license is proof enough for legal status.
However, she could not produce it.
When they ran the tags, they should have come up with her name and address in addition to insurance information.
If they didn’t run the tag, then the police are at fault but I suspect they did and found the names match but for the old address.
She is using her status as a crutch to not have paperwork that even an American born citizen must have. It is not unreasonable to have paperwork for status on your person.
Immigration status is only one aspect she needs legal paperwork processed. Driver’s license and insurance in addition to vehicle registration.
I get the impression from the article they are moving from Shavano Park to the Dominion.
Same here.
Shavano Park and the Dominion, it seemsto me, are almost exclusively liberal.
I cannot imagine a Shavano Park cop threatening anybody with deportation. It’s a very gentrified little township. Very nice place.
I don’t think this happened.
This is BS. She wasn’t turned over to ICE. She wasn’t deported. And we have only her word that the cops threatened her with deportation. A non story.
The article does not say, but the suggestion is that she is a legal resident/green card holder, not a US CITIZEN. Federal law requires that green card holders carry this card on their person at all times. If she did not have it, she has no beef. No license, no green card: another south of the border scofflaw.
Geez....most jurisdictions give you 24 hours to produce a driver's license if it is not on your person when requested.
“Happens a lot in Florida, where bathing suits are often the only attire.”
TTIUWP!
BS and absolutely a setup! Stupid, stupid liberals!
“
People who were born in this country, and who are life-long residents of Texas, are required to have their drivers licenses with them when they are operating a vehicle. But these people apparently think the laws that we have to abide by do not apply to them, and are claiming harassment. What a load.”
Exactly. Every time (every day for many) that I cross the ORegon/California border, I am stopped and have to prove I don’t have any vegetables or plants!
It’s not only ‘possible’, it is routine, and perhaps mandatory that the cop looks up the driver’s record after a traffic stop.
The only problem is that without the actual license, you cannot determine if the license is for the person you stopped, or if the driver just gave you the name of a licensed driver... The picture ID helps to verify that the person you stopped is really the person who is licensed to drive.
Yes, but the DMV has the photo on file. Why can’t cops access that photo during a routine check? And usually a person is driving a vehicle associated with the same address as what is on his/her license.
My last post to you reminds me of a time when my license was either lost or stolen, I can’t remember which. Anywho, I went to the DMV/MVD to get a replacement, and they asked me for a photo ID. I think I found something to give them, but I had to ask the intelligent persons working there why they didn’t just use the photo on the screen to verify that I was who I said. I had my birth certificate and social security card. And they had a photo right there. It was less than two years old. But the law did not allow them to use the photo that was used for my actual identification. It was one of those shake your head moments.
There was another time when this happened to me, and I happened to be a college student. My purse must’ve been stolen because I had zero photo ID. The drivers license place told me a student ID would be sufficient. So I went to the university I was attending and asked for a new photo ID. What did I need to get that ID?????? Nothing. I just walked in and filled out a form. They took my picture. I took my new university ID to the MVD/DMV, and they accepted that photo ID. This was almost 20 years ago, and I thought the system was really messed up. After living in multiple states, I’ve determined they all have major flaws. I don’t think 9/11 made them much better—only more inconvenient.
Except you DIDNT HAVE YOUR PAPERS. You are not a citizen. Being here legally, isn't being a citizen honey. I don't like to carry my wallet, but every time I leave the house, I take it with me since it has my drivers license in it. I AM a citizen though. I have never moved, and left my drivers license at my old house. The naked analogy was spot on. This is a set up, absolutely.
The police officer was quite right to cite her, and possibly correct even to detain her, until she established her identity. But if it can be proven that he said what was alleged, he should be fired.
Along with the majority of good people, police work unfortunately attracts a minority of bullies who sometimes give all officers a bad name. Such behavior should be strongly discouraged. Our police can be strict and fair without being petty and cruel.
Hey guys. DON’T be surprised by this attitude. Mexicans STILL consider Texas a part of Mexico. They were force-fed as children that Texas was “stolen” from Mexico”
It’s almost like a pert of their brain is HARD wired to think they have a BIRTHRIGHT to travel in Texas at will.
