I agree that when unemployment benefits are continued indefinitely they become welfare benefits, but in most cases they are much, much lower than the individual was making when they were working. I suppose this is an incentive to take a lower paying job, but when you have politicians who are actively trying to put people out of work through insane, arbitrary marxist policies, even lower paying jobs are hard to come by.
But fewer unemployment checks means less economic stimulus. This is bad news, according to Nancy Pelosi.
Unfortunately the way the extension laws were wriiten for unemployment, the peoplemwho went on unemployment recently will get their 20-26 weeks and then be off it, while the long term unemployed will still motor along on tier2, tier 3 and tier 4 extensions, because they qualified before the cutoff date. Gotta love the logic - if you’ve been on it a long time, you need it more than the poor guy whose just lost his job.
That sounds like extortion. We have a safety net, i.e., food stamps, Medicaid, etc. We can't continue to bankrupt the country paying out unemployment benefits ad infinitum. Where is the money coming from? The federal government and the states are broke.
We had a Depression in this country. By and large, the people acted responsibly. And we didn't have a huge, public safety net like today. If we were really concerned as a nation about American jobs, we wouldn't be bringing in 125,000 LEGAL FOREIGN WORKERS A MONTH.
What it will accomplish is to cut wages for most, as per the rules of supply and demand.
Instead of some focusing their anger on the victims of this economy (the unemployed), why not focus their anger on the people who've created this nightmare?
They will extend the benefits when Congress returns next week. All thy need is a new Senator from West Virginia or one Republican to fold.
I remember when unemployment benefits ran out and you were expected to understand when that was about to happen and you knew that the govt. was not god or your daddy. You went out and did whatever you had to do to eat including take crappy jobs and move in with family members.
If 3 million people’s unemployment benefits run out then I can’t believe Congress will be passing any kind of amnesty bill anytime soon.

“We had a Depression in this country. ...”
This was a way different country back then though. I am just saying if we aren’t careful, we may end up with NOLA nationwide.
Unemployment numbers aren’t based on this, it’s based on a phone survey. Also, people are getting cut off after 26 weeks now and so on all the way up to 99. This isn’t just the 99’s getting the axe. People really need to learn these 2 facts.
They really gotta get back after their vacation and get on this.
I made a good living up until Jan. of this year when I was laid off - what would have been the start of my 27th year straight of employment and I’m supposedly in a “low unemployment” area - but ha! - the only reason that’s true is that this city (Madison, WI) is the seat of our dysfunctional State govt. The numbers reflect our burstin’ at the seams public sector. I’m due to end my comp soon, and taking a part time job as a fundraiser for the GOP of WI - hopefully get Feingold defeated at last. The pay is incredibly low compared to what I had been earning, but as far as employment goes - many of the very, very few private sector openings here get as many as 3-5 thousand applications for every one available. I went through this once before in the late 70’s and early 80’s when Carter donned his sweater. A serious downturn happens just about every 25-26 years without fail, but God help you when it happens with a Democrat filled Washington DC.
some of them were
we all know people who do
no sarc
why don’t they just focus their anger on their own situation and improve it so they don’t have to face this again
people with initiative to do for themselves and not be at the mercy of others- is what created American wealth. It still can.
The Reps have opposed extending benefits unless the government funds it by taking the money from somewhere else in the budget. Let the Dems get their priorities straight.
you can believe anything of a president who pushes socialized rationed medical care onto country with open borders and bunch of shithole 3rd world nations just to our south
and whose demographic plan is the uncontrolled intake of millions of uneducated belligerent entitled-thinking non culturally assimilating people
while his simultaneous energy policy is to stop domestic energy production and try to reduce consumption to 1990 levels
I guess we gonna power all those new housing projects and jobs for the immigrants with windmills and batteries
When my husband was laid off in 1990, and I was unable to work due to an injury during child-birth, we were pretty bad off financially. Our unemployment benefits didn’t come close to paying all the bills. But we got six months of unemployment, and we knew that going in. Our family helped us. I was a teacher, and so there were no jobs available for me in the middle of the school year. My husband looked for work everyday, but he got very discouraged. God provided a job for him right as we were about to run out of benefits.
My point is that God will meet you at your point of greatest need. If you are depending on another ‘god’ (i.e. gubmint checks), how can God provide for you? What is your greatest need? Believers become dependent on man, and not God. (Non-believers, I don’t know how they cope with unemployment—much less anything else in life.) When you let go and trust that God will take care of you, He finds a way to work things out for you. You can’t depend on the government to save you. God does a much better job.
Look at the pay out in Mass. Nice.
Lots of suicides when God gives up on people. Happens all the time. Just how it is. Not everyone gets lucky.
