We can't continue to bankrupt the country paying out unemployment benefits ad infinitum.

That's a drop in the bucket compared to the *trillions* extorted by the banksters, Wall Street insiders and your government.

They are the people the caused this economic disaster, by the way.

Drop in the bucket? That's the kind of reasoning that has got us into the current situation.

Bull shit...It was not that innocent my friend.

This situation was created by slick banksters, corrupt government and Wall Street insiders.

Ya think these these insiders that were bailed out and walked away with billions were hurt like the private sector middle class?

You seem to be missing the point. Using the stimulus, Wall Street bailout, etc. to justify extending unemployment benefits is a non-starter. It is the same kind of rationale the Left uses to justify its spending.

If extending the unemployment benefits is such a high priority and represents only "a drop in the bucket," then let the Dems find the money in the current budget by cutting something else.

It is always easy to be generous with other people's money. Why not extend unemployment benefits forever? After all, the "insiders that were bailed out and walked away with billions."

My son says that many places only run one shift because of the lack of workers. Just saying...........

You might find this interview with actor John Ratzenberger interesting:

http://web17.streamhoster.com/fullframe/ffcj10/ratzenberger-pt1-3.mp3
http://web17.streamhoster.com/fullframe/ffcj10/ratzenberger-pt2-3.mp3
http://web17.streamhoster.com/fullframe/ffcj10/ratzenberger-pt3-3.mp3

Ratzenberger is working on a documentary, Industrial Tsunami, about the lack of skilled blue-collar workers in this country and what's going to hit us when they've all retired. There's a surplus of workers qualified to flip burgers or stack boxes. But welders and guys qualified on heavy mining equipment are scarce.

That's what you said, and your quote, not mine.

I said:

That's a drop in the bucket compared to the *trillions* extorted by the banksters, Wall Street insiders and your government.

You said:

That's the kind of reasoning that has got us into the current situation.

Fact is, those that caused this came out wealthier than ever, forcing you and I to pay for it!

They got richer while looting the tax payers and the entire economy.

What?

Did you think these super wealthy banksters, and Wall Street insiders had any intention of paying back what we bailed them out for?

I agree. When people start to get desperate they’ll do anything to provide for their families. The idiots in congress had been understand that.

Thanks for the encouraging note. I mean, this is the most a)intentionally bad b) regrettably bad c) idiotically bad administration this country has ever dealt with. And that’s all we’re managing to do, reel from one profound mistake or mistep or intentional act of corruption/mismanagement/madness to the next.

We are moving ever downward in an ever-widening sink of failure.

I do hope we can flush that buttpuppet Feingold down the same sink. He’s as much of a hologram of narcissism as obama is.

Thanks again!

That sounds like extortion

That's a drop in the bucket compared to the *trillions* extorted by the banksters, Wall Street insiders and your government.

My point was, it's funny watching people cry and whine over unemployment for people that lost their asses, homes, businesses, investments, retirements etc..........Yet everyone soon forgets what the hell caused this economic disaster.

So what? How is that justification for extending unemployment benefits beyond the current 99 weeks?

I have heard from quite a few of my friends here via PM, of which the story is the same. Middle aged, having been in the same profession for 20+ years, and suddenly, they're positions are terminated. A few received severance packages. Many did not. Now while looking for work in an impossible environment, these same Freepers are barely feeding their families on what they receive from unemployment, having burned through any savings.

This is the reality in a number of places in this Country.

Alternatives? Well, there are low paying Government jobs available. You could also relocate, perhaps to Iraq. Or, you can get a job in fast food and let your credit cards and mortgage go and file for bankruptcy.

This problem of unemployment isn't just someone else’s. It's everyone’s problem. Adding 6-8 million workers to a work force is going to drive wages down. In addition, realize that with the elimination of unemployment benefits, that lack of supply of dollars circulating into this (deficit) economy is going to make everyone hurt in the short term.

The answer isn't unemployment forever. The answer is to get Government out of private industry in order for our economy to grow, employing these same people currently receiving unemployment benefits. The answer is Capitalism. This current path the Obama administration has put us on is doomed to fail.

I refuse to place blame on the unemployed, anymore than I would blame Social Security being broke on the people who are receiving Social Security benefits. No. I blame GOVERNMENT.

To some here, it's like the old line...it's a recession when your neighbor loses their job, and a depression when you lose your job....

So what?

LOL...They caused this sh*t...Hello?

To put things in perspective....

The government, Wall Street and the banksters robbed you at gun point, economically gang raped the country, destroyed millions of jobs, careers, and businesses, and now people are complaining the victims of this epic crime are receiving too much money?

lol....

BTW, for the second time, I only said it was a drop in the bucket in comparison, not that it was justified...But in reality, it probably is.

It's extremely ironic who some people point the finger at as being the bad guys now....

Hey, feel free to go after the Americans being paid 275 bucks a week, after being beaten, robbed and gang raped....

Knock yourself out!

OK. Let's all sit here and type it.
BLAME GOVERNMENT! BLAME GOVERNMENT!

There. Did that help your unemployed friends?
Maybe it would help them if we BLAME SOMEONE ELSE?
Why do I lack compassion and thus by your extension of logic- “blame” your friends for being stuck?

In 1972 when the Vietnam war was ending, and I was graduating liberal arts (yikes) from college, it was also tough to find work. Engaging in discussions about WHO TO BLAME did not help me.

Inflation was awful. I found out no one could get a job teaching unless you knew somebody on the school board.
I waitressed. Saved tips in a jar. Went to another city by bus. Rented a room. Temp’d. After a year, took a low paying govt job with benefits- military- for security. Got promoted, repeatedly. Stayed. Through retirement.

Now retired but with tax increases looming, already figuring out how to make money on my own by providing a service for which there is demand (no, not hooking)

You reject these things as solutions for your friends because you “refuse to blame the unemployed”. What the devil does that mean? And what does it accomplish? If they could take a “low paying govt job” and won't- shame on them.

Stop their unemployment checks.

Oh wait let's be compassionate. Let's refuse to blame them, Let's blame government. Let's pity them and salve their feelings while they continue to collect govt unemployment checks and scrape to feed their families while looking backward and frantically trying to get their old life back. For two years? Three years? Five years?
Why not- their situation is GOVERNMENT”s fault, let GOVERNMENT drive while they stay focused on the rear view mirror.

Keep blaming govt, keep sending them govt checks, they will continue to elect the govt that is sending them checks.

Problem solved?

The unemployed need to get mad enough at their SITUATION to change it themselves instead of whimpering and whining about “the government” or any other external cause.
Last I heard buggy whip makers weren't still collecting unemployment checks because Henry Ford - and THE GOVERNMENT- put them out of business. But if compassionate liberals were in charge the past 80 years, maybe they would be.

The only “impossible environment” in which to look for work one without imagination, initiative and courage. They can figure that out now, or they can wait a few years. Maybe forever. Poor lot indeed, your friends. I suggest you turn them on to Dave Ramsey- they could find a good support group of positive thinking people who don't sit around blaming government for their lives and expecting a handout.

PS: When times were tough back in ‘74, a couple of unemployed college grads in my town started their own business - “Tootsie Roll Patrol” - picking up dog poop. They got so many contracts for weekly service, they hired a couple of helpers. Their motto was “Our business is picking up”. I bet they sold that business and moved on, and I bet they are retired now. And I bet someone is still making money picking up dog poop at apartment/condo complexes and neighborhood playgrounds.

LOL. Yeah everybody is a victim and deserves a government handout. You can play that class BS all you want. 50% of the population don't pay income tax. All of that extraneous BS aside, the issue is how long we extend unemployment benefits beyond 99 weeks. The Dems want to continue the payments so they don't have to pay a political price for the desperate state of the economy. And it makes more people dependent upon government.

When you subsidize something, you get more of it. When you tax it, you get less.

LOL. Yeah everybody is a victim and deserves a government handout.

You are attempting to make the corrupt government, Wall Street criminal insiders and the banksters appear as the victims.

((They caused this epic economic disaster))

Your spin is speeding up the rotation of the planet. Please stop.

You are using the “corrupt government, Wall Street criminal insiders and the banksters “ as justification for extending unemployment benefits beyond 99 weeks. The federal and state governments are already in dire straits. Where is the money coming from?

"The ones I see advertised are the same ones being advertised two years ago, and in reality, do not exist."

Absolutely true with respect to IT anyway. There are some jobs but they are few and far between.

So after being given over $27,000 you still think you deserve more? Find a job and get off the welfare dole.

Compassion???

It ain't compassion when it's forcefully removed from someone else's pocket.

I agree, but the media uses “compassion” to beat those that disagree with welfare into submission. I do not think we disagree.
