New York politicians are bending over backwards and violating protocol to build a mega mosque at Ground Zero. In warped speed they are ramming it through, removing every obstacle to expedite the process and erect a triumphal mosque at Ground Zero in time for it to meet its stated opening date, the tenth anniversary of September 11. Why? Would they do this for a church? A synagogue? This is an outrage.
Wednesday night, on less than a week and a half’s notice (at a time when most people who care are not even around), the Lower Manhattan Community Board 1 (LMCB) Landmark Commission (LMCBLC) held a meeting to consider the landmark status of 45-47 Park Place (the site of the proposed 911 mega-mosque). Refusing to wait until the entire board could meet, seven board members voted to deny landmark status to the Burlington Coat Factory building, removing another obstacle to Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf’s supremacist, triumphal mosque.
Yet the historical significance of the property is clear: the famous architect Daniel D. Badger designed the building. A number of his buildings have already been given landmark status. The New York Times obituary (in the November 19, 1884 issue, p. 2) for Badger (1806-1884) called him “the pioneer of this country in the use of iron for building purposes.”
More importantly, his building has special historical significance because of 911. It was part of the attack. The landing gear of one the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center towers flew out to the Burlington Coat Factory building, and fell through the roof to the basement. The fact that the committee ignores that fact is outrageous, and disrespects the victims of 911.
The LMCBLC unanimously (with one recusal) voted Wednesday to recommend to the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) that landmark status be denied. Yes, this ugly decision was unanimous. The one recusal came from a board member who admitted to being in bed with the owner (future financial gains implied). This was the same tool who during last month’s community board meeting was shilling for the mosque. Apparently, one of the owners of the property approached him and subsequently corresponded with him. He said he was recusing himself because although there was no “immediate” financial benefit to him, he thought it appropriate given potential conflicts of interest. The same member of the LMCBLC made reference to Kristallnacht, implying that opponents of the mosque are Nazis. Outrageous, I tell you.
This makes me sick!
It is not only ridiculous and creepy to build the pig sty there, but also that it will be flanked by the Amish Market and The Roadhouse compounds the weirdness factor.
I told someone that there was a mosque being built at ground zero that is a stanch liberal, they thought I was lying.
I told them to look it up and then told him what a mosque is celebrating and when the opening is. He was in total shock, he said it can’t be true.
Then he looked it up. As soon as he saw it he started telling all his friends and they are all having that deer in the head light look.
I said, look what the Dems are doing, what are they thinking?
I just can’t quite get over the highlight of a Mulums entire life is to visit a rock. Right out of the “stone” ages...pun intended.
I’ll go farther, I predict there will sabotage and outright attacks against it.
In this case it’s money and power. I’m sure any Dem who fights this has a short future in politics. I’m also sure that the pols expect a little green coming their way from the deep pockets backing the whole obscene idea.
Demand to see the Politicians bank records, donation records etc. They’re being bought off.
Also Meanwhile, Dubai was able to build the newest worlds tallest building (featuring the world's highest mosque near the top) in only FIVE years! NY-ers should be ashamed of themselves with all the dickering and infighting they do.
Lest they forget.
I flew over NYC this weekend and saw the hole-in-the-ground where the Towers used to be. I thought, “If we were a country in ascendency, we would have rebuilt the towers by now.” It’s outrageous they haven’t been rebuilt. That alone shows weakness. Even more outrageous would be the placement of a mosque in close proximity. Are we nuts to allow this? There’s no question that this is a “celebration” of muslim victory - check your history! And for an opening by 9/11/11? Come on.....

It is, but your run of the mill Democrat has no idea this is going on. When you tell them about it they are in complete shock. Denial, then they call you a liar, then they go check it out, then they get angry.
You may think that the majority of America’s liberals wouldn’t care but when you present the information to even the most stanchest liberal they freak out.

Eerily reminiscent of the Nazi swastika high atop the Reichstag in Berlin. That was blown up when Berlin fell. I wonder when the mosque will be leveled. As sure as God made little green apples, if built, it will be leveled.
